Football prospects are influenced by many things at a University. Some of you self professed know it alls have never been on an official NCAA trip. Never had a head coach in your home, never been in a head coaches home. They don’t break out a pony!
This is so simple to understand.

Open your mind like a parachute, get past the all about me, and put your self in the prospects shoes. The Mustangs exemplify strength and courage, the underlying things you want a young man to see about your program when he is a prospect. Not a pony show.

So by that logic, kids wouldn't be going to UT because they have a piece of cattle as their mascot? After all, who wants to be a cow? I guess that's really hurt them.

Well I guess the longhorn(bull) is the state animal. But I still am not fond of the horns.

well the Ford Mustang has been one of the top selling cars in the US since 1960s. The argument falls completely and hopelessly apart since the Mustang is marketing Gold and they use a symbol that looks like ours for a small, sporty sports-car.

Dog gone straight that it's the top selling car. I like my Ford Mustang.

Recruits pick schools for all kinds of stupid reasons-it all starts with the uniforms for example but your really stretching your argument to suggest that Peruna has cost us recruits. Never heard a single recruit mention a mascot as a reason in the 40 years I've followed recruiting.

Nice going. If you bring actual logic into all of the "holy crap, the world is ending because of an additional mascot" talk, you're really going to derail some first-class whining.

Bring a man to an SMU football game that’s never been to one and explain to him that the reason everyone has two fingers up is because it represents pony ears.

As Mexmustang pointed out, they originally represented the strength of mustang hoofs stomping down dominance on the opposition.

So I guess you like horses that have no gonads representing the team.

I realized how hypocritical it was to support a new Mustang and continue to sport a pony in my name. I put down the pony forever this morning.

All you gotta do is say "Our mascot killed another. Let's see you name another mascot that has done that."

Peruna is perfect for this school because he's small, but he never backs down from a fight. SMU has a proud history of taking on the big boys in Texas (UT, A&M) and WINNING.

I tend to agree with you on the get past the all about me. That said, I don't think prospects give two sh$ts about the mascot. If JJ or Reinebold walks into the house, and SMU's been kicking [deleted], or is gonna kick [deleted], or if our staff has the skins on the wall to help a kid get to the NFL, that'll make an impression. They probably don't find out about mascots till they're already on campus.

You think the aggie coach walks into a home and says yeah, we all bend over with our hands on our knees, then lock arms and sway back and forth and sing. Oh, and our cheerleaders are all guys.
