Saturday observations

Postby newshound » Sun Oct 11, 2009 12:04 pm

A win is a win is a win. We are 3-2, should be 4-1, but could be 0-5. Learning how to win, no matter how, is what is key. Despite late fumble from Line and BLM throwing the ball out of bounds on final possession, the Ponies prevailed. Despite stupid penalty after last TD that gave ECU an extra 15 yards on the kickoff return, the Ponies prevailed. Despite a lot of things that did not go well, they WON; they beat the defending C-USA champs! WInning is contageous, no matter how. So, we will take it. 2-0 in Conference play for the first time since 1986 is great; surely, the kids have to feel good with a tough three games upcoming. Just keep getting better every day.

Some observations from Saturday night:

+ P.A. announcer had a great night. No mispronunciations, no misidentified players. Solid pipes.
+ Out of town scores were great on the big board. Nice to have that working right. Just good info. In-game stats need work, though.
+ Slightly amplified band is great (more on that later, though).
+ Scoreboard and play clocks still have burned out bulbs (though not as many as in Game 1); c'mon, guy, six games a year, that should not be that hard; it looks JV.
+ Inflatable helmet scrapped. That was SO high school. Hurray!
+ Across, the street, the bookstore selection is GREAT now. And no more "alternate/incorrect" Pony logo on ANYTHING. It took a long time to get that out of circulation, but now it appears to be gone. Kudos to whomever did that. Now, can we get ESPN to use the right logo? Also, can you stop selling the red No. 8 jerseys from two years ago? Donate those to Goodwill or burn them.
+ Still getting horrible feedback from ref mic in the stadium. Never heard that happen anywhere else ever. Not even high school games. Fix it, please.
+ Music selection between plays is not good; it's AWFUL, actually. If you MUST turn this into Arena Football/Indoor Soccer, please mix up the music. What happened to Peruna being played between plays? And, why is there "pump up" music played when the OTHER team has the ball? Let the band play as much as possible. PLEASE.
+ Amplified band sounds great, but whoever is mixing stadium audio needs to pay better attention and lose that mic when the band in not playing. For much of the game, there was commentary piped in from band members via that mic.

Now, let's go beat Navy, We owe them a little something, don't we?

Sorry. The announcer called Emilio Sanders on a Bo Levi scramble. He did correct it to being Bo, but I always thought you guys were kidding with the Emilio. Could someone tell him what Sander's first name is?

Agreed, they do need to change that.

Agree with everything newshound said above.

The Grambling and Prairie View bands just got reprimanded for playing when the other's offense broke its huddle and approached the line of scrimmage. Got to watch it with that between-plays music.

Bookstore selection is good, just wish it had some competition. The prices are outrageous, but they've basically got a monopoly on SMU apparel.
