Re: Don't Mic The Band
Imagine if they had it for you, me and couch 'em. Odds are they would have shut it down very quickly.
Re: Don't Mic The Bandeasily the worst audio ever at an smu game.
Re: Don't Mic The Band
Glad I'm not the only one - I liked it as well... other than the times we had the horrid feedback. pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.
Re: Don't Mic The BandMy girlfriend and I were joking that a Mustang Band CD was playing over the PA and that the actual band was being forced to mime each song and cheer depending on what came next on the CD. The PA sound was slightly ahead of the noise from the band coming across the field which added to the joke (hand movements not in time with the PA sound, etc). At first, the noise startled us because it sounded like the alumni band was directly behind our seats.
Playing crowd noise over the PA may not be a bad idea...keep the band un-mic ed because the PA-delay is kinda annoying with Peruna but make a sound-byte from an actual game or prep rally for the student cheers and play them when appropriate during the game...kinda like the sound buttons radio guys use (I know, it's probably more of a bite than the current audio guys can chew). I don't think the delay would be noticed with cheer-noise as much with the band, it's actually believable that people could be cheering behind you, it might cue/cause silent fans to actually get into the games. Sorta like what the announcer was trying to do last year ('stand up and yell...it's THIRRRRRRD DOWN!") but less embarrassing. Face it, we need crowd-noise crutches.
Re: Don't Mic The Band
In reading posts I am now convinced that on the West side the folks in the lower section have the sound system right while the folks in the upper are about to pull their hair out... This Saturday look up under the pooba boxes. There are small speakers all the way down. The sound is deafening and the delay from the band over the mic and one can only stand, "I like to move it move it." So many times.
Re: Don't Mic The BandYes, those above the walkway on the West side get blasted from the speakers hanging from the pressbox.
It was especially bad early in the game. I think they lowered the volume a little in the second half - or maybe I was going deaf.
Re: Don't Mic The BandThe only thing that should be mic'd is maybe a sax solo. Otherwise, the band is plenty loud. The less we have to hear the Radio Shack speakers, the better.
