Dear Steve, take your letter and stuff it!

Why did we move? Because there was a NEED for change.
Where was the NEED to mess with the tradition of Peruna?
It's obvious that the younger generation will embrace this...for a micro-second, then go back to watching the Mavericks and hanging out at all the cool places.

I thought you don't f with tradition, though. Who dictated the need for change? And who says change is okay?
And I'd like to start the complaint process about them messing with our band. Tradition dictates 96 guys and a doll. There are a lot more dolls, and a lot fewer than 96 guys. wtf?

I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.

I didn't make the call to move venues. I'm sure it was a revenue call. I'm sure that trotting out a stud instead of peruna isn't going to help our cash flow.Pony!Poni!Pone'! wrote:so why did we move from the house that Doak built to Texas Stadium? Don't get uppity with me. That's what I'm talking about. That's why they call them traditions. Call me old fashioned, but I like traditions, and I happen to like peruna. By the way Patton, how did you drag me into this mess?

I'm not uppity. Far from it. I'm very much pro-Peruna. And I think if they want a big horse, bring it on. Do we really think they are out to abolish Peruna, and will exhume the Peruna grave at Ford?MidlandMustang wrote:Don't get uppity with me. That's what I'm talking about. My response was partially in jest. The House that Doak Built is something that I think nationally would have a greater name recognition and identification with SMU than would Peruna.
Talk to someone in...I don't know...Michigan...take two different people who are casual football fans. Ask them to associate a college or university with Earl Campbell. Then ask the other person Bevo. I think most would go with Earl Campbell. Ditto Reggie Bush and Traveler. Quick! What school do you think of when I say Louie? No response...okay...Brian Urlacher? Guess what...Louie the Lobo, Brian Urlacher, same school.

Beautiful? Really? That might be the weakest brand of sauce on this site. And that is truly an astonishing thing.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Man, there sure are a lot of uptight people on here after a big win. Model T, I'm just horsing around - no pun intended. Come on out to Midland and I'll buy you a beer.StallionsModelT wrote:Beautiful? Really? That might be the weakest brand of sauce on this site. And that is truly an astonishing thing.

No worries Midland. Not uptight just sick of the old farts around here that get more riled up over a miniature pet horse than our football team. Very telling.

Very true and sad at the same time. What many of these older fans are missing is the fact that all traditions were born as something new. Peruna was a new mascot at one time too. This generation has as much right to create a new additional SMU tradition as any other group before them.StallionsModelT wrote:Not uptight just sick of the old farts around here that get more riled up over a miniature pet horse than our football team. how can they create a new tradition when they don't even show up for the games?

Re: Dear Steve, take your letter and stuff it!
I'm sorry but there is something to be said for what is described below. I'm not a horse expert, but my 3rd Ex-wife is and what I learned is that those little shetland's are fiesty little @#$@ckers. There is no way a mustang can follow any of these notable incidents. That my friends......is tradition right there and you do not mess with it. I would like Peruna to take a dump in Orsini's office after taking another one on TCU's midfield! Go Peruna!
The name "Peruna" is given to each successive live mascot. A black shetland pony, Peruna has been present at every SMU home football game for over 70 years. "Peruna" also refers to the costumed mascot and SMU's fight song. Other notable incidents involving Peruna are when he tried to mount Texas Tech's horse, Misty, sent the University of Texas Longhorn Bevo to the ground with a kick in the side, and defacated at midfield during a TCU - SMU game, the week that TCU unveiled the school's brand new Field Turf.
