The sound of gunfire in Fair Park would not raise any eyebrows.

I'm OK with the cannon or other explosive device, I just hope we put our own spin on it with something original.

I think something audible happening after a touchdown would add to the game day experience.

Usually after a TD you can hear the opposing coaching staff calling for the PAT team and congratulating the player that just scored.

Big Naomi is an old tradition associated with SMU; therefore, it cannot be a part of the new era at SMU.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

And with our PC times, they would have to change 'Big Naomi' to 'Ample Naomi' and make sure the paint is green and non-animal tested.

Pretty sure Naomi's paint is probably lead based.

Big Naomi should be euthanized and never mentioned again as some of our youngster alumni have never heard of "her" and would not understand the significance of Big Naomi and BN's place in SMU and SWC history - the history that has not been REwritten. We don't want to offend (or bore) anyone with tradition.

Best Civil War beard belonged to James Ewell Brown Stuart. And he commanded horse artillery. Making this all the more relevant once we get our new geldings hitched up to the cannon.

During the mid-60s SMU had a cannon which was fired after every touchdown. As I recall, we double/triple loaded the cannon after the great Navy game in 1964 in which we beat Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach. (Yes, Staubach attempted 3 passes into the SMU end zone in the last 12 seconds making for a more than exciting finish. Best game I ever saw at SMU. ) The cannon was aimed at the Cotton Bowl press box in celebration after the game and the charge was so big that it knocked virtually every typewriter and phone off the media platform. Coffee was everywhere and the media reporting the huge upset was considerably delayed in reporting their stories. This big bang also made it into most media reports. As a result, our use of the cannon was either banned and/or reduced to small charges aimed at the end zone. ( Hope I got the right game and am not confusing it with the Texas win the following year; however, the essence of the story is accurate.)
