Mike Leach vs. June Jones

Postby LakeHighlandsPony » Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:28 pm

Mike Leach is a rat-plain and simple and June is a class act---However!!

Mike Leach never takes his foot off the gas pedal and June does. June can't close.

Leach always has a trick play and June does not have one in the play book.

Leach always goes for it on 4th down and June needs to learn how. For Gods sakes roll the freakin dice sometimes.

If something is working Leach keeps doing it- June pulls McNeal out when he is on Fuego for the slow white honky.(kidding Zach is a stud).

Leach has a true system going where diffrent players can be plugged into it. SMU Offense cannot get any consistecy. Hike and Pray is not an offense. The 3 and outs lost us the game. Our defense was ragged from being on the field too much.

LHP- good comparison. However, I would prefer JJ (warts and all) over Leach any day. We will get there and when we do it will be with class (a word not in Leach's vocabulary).

GO PONIES!!!

I watched a lot of that game. Amazing Texas Tech actually won a game with defense. Lost in the Big win-Texas Tech had a grand total of 259 yards total offense. 25 carries for 25 yards. Key stat though 0 turnovers. Second lowest offensive output and lowest since Leach's debut at Texas Tech 9 years ago

If Jones goes for it on 4th down and fails - you will still be pissed.

If Jones leaves McNeal in, and he gets hurt, you will say "why did JJ leave him in when he was hurt this week in practice!"

Ok- Couch'em Here is a little football 101

When a running back has scorched the other team for 140 yards rushing you keep him in on 3rd and 2 to make the other team THINK you are going to handoff to him. We all know that June wants to have BLM throw an incompletion but atleast the secondary and linebacker cheat up to stop the unstoppable running back.

I also would go for it on 4th and 2 on the Navy 40 yard line because 90 percent of the time our punter kicks it out of the endzone for a gain of 15 or 20 yards MOST of the time. Might as well take a chance. Our defense was on the field way too long.

Football is a field position game. You punt and pin them deep. If they start at their 20, you're making that option attack drive 80 yards and overcome potential mistakes. Making them drive 60 yards changes the playcalling and how aggressive they want to be.

We should have put them away in the first half with those possessions that started on their 40 and our 43. But we didn't. Just have to put it behind them and move on to Houston.

I read that as speaking in general. I agree that he could have been used more in situations like you described.

I would vote neither on Leach or Jones. I would have paid the $2 million a year to bring Coach Peterson and the Boise State staff here to see what they could do.

Not going for it on 4th was probably the right move given all the factors involved & known at the time imo. Hawaii fans would say JJ goes for 4th way too much
