What's up with the cannon? Is this new to SMU or just there as part of armed services that were present?

I liked it. I'ld fire that thing off more than just the opening kickoff. Keep everyone awake / add to atmosphere. Maybe a SUPRISE boom every once in a while.

I liked it, too, but can't that thing go off when the opponent is fielding a kickoff? By uncorking that sucker on the opening kickoff, behind our return team, I was afraid Bryan McCann would pass out while he was trying to concentrate on the ball as it sailed toward him.
I really shouldn't drink and type.

Shoot it off after SMU momentum changes: turnovers, scores, officials review a call and change ruling on field to our favor, etc.

Have reps from different student groups man the cannon.

I need some more cannon.

I think the original plan was for it to go off on all kickoffs, but for some reason it wasn't used after the first shot. They were probably concerned it would knock out the scoreboard.

Get that cannon to every game and figure out a way for it to work. It added a lot to the atmosphere.

I think the first shot grazed the 25 second clock.
