First, the stated goal is a bowl game, not a certain number of wins, and whether you want to talk in terms of guarantees or just wins, you think 7 will be the magic number if I understand you correctly. Second, our longest post-DP win streak did not carry us to the post season, unless I slept through a year, which is why I was trying to tie the point back into the stated goal.
Bottom line, I think the General's crazy notion needs to happen for the goal to be reached. I may be wrong, lord knows it's happened before. Once. When I thought I was wrong but I was really right.
I think there are differences between 2009 and 2006: 1) In 2006, there wasn't a bowl in our coach's former stomping grounds that will do anything to get. 2) In 2006, CUSA had 5 bowls as opposed to the 6 slots that it will most likely have this year.

yes with Army now a longshot for a Bowl and the present situation in CUSA the chances have probably doubled that SMU could get a bowl at 6-6. Its very likely CUSA now has 6 bowls. It was very possible to have 5 CUSA teams with 7 wins and SMU left out at 6-6 but now its much less possible to have 6 CUSA teams with 7 wins plus SMU left out at 6-6.

And if ECU or Marshall would be slotted for the Hawaii slot and we would be the pick for the Eagle Bank slot in DC, I suspect that Eagle Bank would prefer a regional team such as ECU or Marshall which will travel well as opposed to SMU which is 1500 miles away and doesn't travel as well. Although if we're in the Eagle Bank bowl, at least I'd be able to host a tailgate for my Ponyfans friends at RFK parking lot. If SMU and Marshall both end up 6-6, I can still see us sitting home because Marshall might own the tiebreaker.

Hawaii Bowl has 2nd choice; they do not have to take the #2 team. CUSA does not have teams slotted based on standings. They have two "preferred selection bowls" (Liberty & Hawaii) and after that the other bowls pick teams in a free-for-all format.

So how about this. If we lose to Houston, beat Tulsa, and win out (I know it's a stretch but I'm just saying). Tulsa beats Houston (the game is at Tulsa). Then we would be playing in (and probably hosting) the conference championship game. So IF we could split then things would be interesting for our last 4 games.
*please not that this was just a hypothetical and not intended to frustrate or encourage responses telling me to have no expectations or that I'm crazy, etc.

General, We win and lose 'close'...it is nerve-racking, but it is the nature of this team and it's talent at this point. Against a TCU team in Ft. Worth with superior talent, SMU did not last past the third quarter. This team has exhibited a resilient streak that may make it competitive Saturday, but my thinking is that talent will wear SMU down again. Should have won last year, but I just don't see it this week as being that close. Tulsa should hold serve against us as well, even though it seems to be a more 'beatable' opponent...there is nothing that I have seen in the past three weeks that indicates SMU is able to beat a vastly superior opponent yet. I hope I am wrong... I hope you are not 'crazy'...

Repeat after me Grasshoppers. The season is half over, all games from here on out are winnable and are losable. Bad teams can improve the second half, good teams can slip up or have injuries in the second half. Assuming wins is a guarantee for losses.

Big 10 still stinks. Iowa is a joke. I love telling my Hawkeye family members that

Just tell them that Iowa is a four letter word. Had a great time up here watching the Gophers and Spartans. The Gophers new stadium is really cool. But the exprience was made even better because the Mustangs won. Just had the belief we were good enough to get one of these.
Let's see how it plays out beginning with Rice. Just sounded like we played well in all facets. Most important, we finished in the fourth quarter. They matched my predicted win total for this year so blow it out.
