Recorded music during game is awfulWhat hair brain came up with this ideal? I was finally able to get to Dallas and watch the SMU game. I can not believe SMU thinks piped in music is good for the game. I think it cheapens the game experience and is embarrassing. If I hear, "Don't stop believing", again I will scream. I also think the piped in cheerleading sounds pretty cheesy as well. I have been to other college games and never heard anything like this. Why in the Hell does SMU do this? Any help?
PONY UP!!! Here Kitty, Kitty, THUMP!!!!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulI agree. Some of the music that they were playing sounded like it was from the Saturday Night Live skit "Dieter's Dance Party."
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulI would think they will stop or greatly reduce the piped in music once we start filling the stadium with real ticket purchasers that stay for an entire game. Sure ND/TX/OU probably don't pipe in much music but they have huge bands and 90-100K screaming rabid fans/students...we don't.
And to be honest I see people that seem to enjoy some of the cheesey music. After all the horrible predictions about the song "Wildfire" I thought it sounded pretty decent and the response was good. If we play rap some are going to complain, if we play Journey some are going to complain, if we play Ozzie some are going to complain, whatever we play someone is not going to like it. I say we keep a bit of of the piped in music until we get bigger more enthusiastic crowds...but mix it up and pretty much just copy the Mavericks or some big time event that has a more trendy feel...remember we aren't just selling the entertainment package to you...realize SMU is trying to satisfy an entire spectrum of ages/cultures/tastes....until we can fill the stadium. DONT BELIEVE THE LIES - PERUNA IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE! C-ya @ Milos!
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulI liked the pre recorded cheer. The music would be fine if it fit the game situation.
It is just horribly wrong to have a love song playing right before your defense has to make a big 3rd down stop. ![]() If you want to play "Don't stop believing" it's okay as long as you play it in the correct situation(ie. just before Overtime).
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulWe need all the help with noise and sound we can get, we have too many
fans that don't stand or cheer.
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulWe need more people standing and yelling "kill him".

Re: Recorded music during game is awful
You are so right!
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulPeople that sat on the east side, said that the sound system is still terrible. Why can't we fix this?
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulHey, just noticed that I am now over 5,000 post.

Re: Recorded music during game is awfulWhat's worse than recorded music during the game? Recorded music during halftime.
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulThe Washington Caps in the 3rd period have this montage they put together "unleash the fury" which is pretty funny and also gets the crowd amped up. Here's a bad copy of it from youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EYBYNxYMVs&feature=related Perhaps, Steve-O can come up with something that works for Mustang fans as well. Don't stop believin' is too sappy a song. UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulOur marketing department lack basic knowledge of how and when to use situational music at a college football game. Simple as that.
The correctly believe that there should be noise in the stadium from the time the play is blown dead until the offense breaks the huddle and goes to the line. At least they got that right. But instead of telling the band to play something after every play is over until theoffense comes to the line of scrimmage, they tell the band NOT to play, then tell a monkey to press "PLAY" on whatever track is currently cued on the House Dance Party Mix Volume III cd after each down. So we get a different section of "I Like to Move It Move It" for every play in the 1st quarter, "Mony Mony" for the next quarter (not even Billy Idol version), "Pump Up the Jam"the next quarter, "Put on for My City" for a time out, etc. These are not GAMETIME songs (at most they are appropriate for warmups during pregame), but that doesn't matter to our genius marketing department, because "hey, at least there is some noise in the stadium." The marketing people should either (a) just instructed the band to play after every down like they do at Top 25 programs, or (b) at least occasionally played something APPROPRIATE FOR THE SITUATION that will actually excite the crowd. With respect to (a) -- it's not about volume. Often in a full Top 25 stadium, some portions of the crowd cannot hear even a 400 piece band, and sometimes the opposing band is more audible to some parts of the crowd -- Accoustics and crowd noise affect that. But that doesn't stop the bands from playing. But our marketing department, apparently never having been to a college football game in a good college football environment, think that any piped in music will do. They also must believe, incorrectly, that the Mustang Band should not play our spirit songs over and over. Go to (or hey, just listen to a broadcast of) a Top 25 game and you hear the SAME song over and over played by USC's vaunted band, Florida's band (and every other SEC band that plays the same ditty), etc. (Oh, and interning with the Mavericks or Cowboys or other random pro team does not equal experience with a successful college football marketing department). And when those environment's DO play some music piped in, it is not a complete absurdity like it is at SMU. On 3rd downs, they'll play the beginning of AC/DC's Hell's Bells to get people fired up, they'll play Jump Around after a big score or turnover and the crowd goes crazy (see Wisconsin or Oklahoma), etc. I don't necessarily think we need to copy the patterns exactly, but we should at least be SMART about what to play and when. (BTW, I like Journey just fine on the radio, but just because someone thought they were being clever by inserting Bo Levi's name into an old Journey doesn't mean it becomes a stirring song that fires up the crowd to cheer on their team to victory). But here's the thing ... I've been saying this stuff about game presentation directly to Orsini since he arrived, and he smiles, says nice things, and then ignores everything I say. If anything, this aspect of game presentation has gotten worse (i.e. farther away from Top 25 caliber) since he got here.
Re: Recorded music during game is awful
I was curious as to why the once mighty band known to drive our opponents mad with their constant musical assault has been reduced to the occasional attempt at current popular music. Far East Conference
Re: Recorded music during game is awful
That's a-whole-nother thread, sir... Alan Shore: Yes, I know, I'll get letters...
"some people post yet know NOTHING about football..." WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?
Re: Recorded music during game is awfulSpaz - I'm disappointed to see you got rid of your old signature line. That was probably my most lasting contribution to Ponyfans.
