See the football field right off of Dublin Street? If we build a field there, will we build an indoor facility at the site of the current practice fields?
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?I wouldn't read too much into that.
My guess is the "football field" you're referring to is meant to be an intramural field. The other, larger field - is that a lacrosse field? We aren't adding lacrosse as a varsity sports any time soon. If I were to interpret this literally, I would say there are plans for the intramural field between Moody and fraternity row, next to the original parking garage. Thus the need for these two new fields for intramurals and the lacrosse club games.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?If lacrosse is added, it would probably be played at Wescott.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
Nothing against lacrosse, but why would we ever add it as a men's varsity sport over bringing back men's track.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?B/c it is easily matched with Women's lacrosse....
Grand Old Title 9
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
I do not believe title 9 played a role in dropping men's track. It was a $$$ decision. Probably could reinstate the program without adding an additional women's sport. So adding both a men's and women's lacrosse program over men's track does not make sense.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?Indoor Practice Facility on the site of the current intramural field, then?
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
If another sport is added, it will be a women's sport in order to get closer to being Title IX-compliant. And no way should Westcott be shared with any other sport. Weekend tournaments chop it up enough.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
Men's varsity lacrosse will not be added any time soon. Women's is close however. Both teams have coaching staffs in place. The men's coach has a 4 year 6 figure contract that is paid for by lacrosse boosters alone. There is potential. But no way a men's team is added until UT & A&M want to make a similar jump.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?I've heard the idea tossed around that on the Bush Library grounds, there will be a park and a new intramural field, then the current intramural field could become an indoor football field. On top of that, you add 6 more tennis courts, cover the 6 we already have, and then SMU is qualified to hold the tennis national championship.

Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site? That would make for an even prettier entrance to the university off SMU Blvd.

Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
I've also heard that that may actually become the "main entrance" to campus, although these are just speculations. But the school has bought land across 75, and right across the road from the old KA house to build on, so coupled with the Bush Library, possibly a new indoor field (hopefully), whatever they turn those old tennis courts into, and a head on view of frat row and Laura Lee Blanton, you've got a lot of nice looking buildings to look at on that side. #GodFather #Tempo
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?I don't think that's just speculation. The positioning of the Blanton building and the relocation of student services from Perkins to there was done precisely to re-orient the main entrance to campus. Couple that with very limited access to Bishop now (making the campus more pedestrian friendly), and easy access to SMU blvd off of 75.
Re: Football Field on Bush Library Site?
ya I guess I only worded it that way in case someone asked for a source, I'm fairly certain its in the plans, but only because of conversations I've had, not necessarily anything I've read in print. #GodFather #Tempo
