Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?Sorry that wasn't really directed at you, just more at the department in general. Without knowing anything I really believe these two gifts were designed to at least compliment the Shetland, if not replace it eventually. The big half time show, "introducing" them to the team, June's multiple complaints about Peruna, the fact that his hand prints are all over this, the department produced video complete with bad music, not to mention the promotional pictures with meter sticks to simply show how large the horses were. Orsini or the school can release statements and try and say the right thing after stepping on a land mine but it's pretty transparent.

Hey, you stole that. ![]()
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?its a nice horse, i got to pat it practicing for the halftime stuff...the guy handling it said it was taken from the wild and broken in reno at a correctional facility for 9 months, but he said that its still pretty damned wild

Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?
So we should be proud of the fact that we have two recently incarcerated geldings?
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?infer whatever you desire, im reporting my perception and the facts as i know them

Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?I really don't care what June thinks. Three more years and he is out of here to enjoy his millions in Hawaii. He needs to worry about how his Mustangs perform on the field and not what our mascot is or looks like. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?
Yeah I'm pretty much in agreement with that. I seem to recall some of the more knowledgeable Hawai'i fans coming over here right after June was inked and telling us to get ready for new uniforms, learn to like the color black, and be prepared for a fiercer mascot.
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?Uniforms aren't going to make the difference in winning & losing. It's coaching & quality players. If that was the case, he (June) would be wanting the uniforms (& helmets) we wore in the '67 Cotton Bowl against Georgia & the '68 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl against Oklahoma - OR------the unis we wore in the 30's through the early 50's-----pure classics!!! Those were the "teams" that launched SMU onto the national scene. Out of respect & tradition (to them), we should utilize those unis & helmets if not permanently, at least one game a year. Without those teams, there would be no SMU onto the national stage of college football. Moreover, the 80's Pony Express teams would never have ever happened. I remember those days & many of you, too. The people that put those teams together remembered very well the name SMU had back in our glor years. Those great teams we had were the foundation that helped build & fueled the Pony Express Years. Remember what the coaches said back then - we're SMU back to greatness (paraphrasing)! If you can remember, that was only 30-40 years past the teams that started it all in the 30's & 40's. 30-40 years now days would be the 70's & we can definitely remember that. I may add that tradition sells & wins - Texas, ND, Miami, Michigan, USC, & so on.
Why would he even worry about Peruna??? He's not paid to worry about that!!! If that was the case, we would have never won in the 80's & prior generation with Peruna. This is ludicrous!!! I can't imagine our administration ever going for 'black' & all THAT other crap but then you never know??? Look how they've run our athletic programs through the last 20 years???!!! This would have never happened in previous generations!!! What someone will do when they sell their soul to the devil or big cash for someone. Hopefully it wont come to that!!! Hell!!! Why don't we just name it June Jones University???!!! Is that what it's coming too???!!! Last edited by NavyCrimson on Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:55 am, edited 2 times in total.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?I could easily see black show up in the uniforms. Black is a filler color, just like white, which we already use on the helmets.
I wouldn't have a problem with black in the uniforms, other thant he fact I can't imagine it looking good, and I think we need to pick a traditional look and stick with it to build an image. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?And on the Peruna issue: we shouldn't blame Jones. Sure, it is probably his idea, but he wants to 'rebrand' and program to help with recruiting and attendance, etc. That's a fine and noble goal. It is the job of the administration to tell him what he can do and when he is going to far. This mess is 100% on Turner and Orsini.

Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?Jeez, settle down. I was just recalling what some of the Hawai'i buffs came over here to share back in January of 2008. Go back and look it up. It's not like you're going to wake up tomorrow with black uniforms.
Re: So... uh.... where'd the horse talk go?Hey - with this administration (Turner, Orsini, et al.) - anything is possible!
Look whose in the White House now & is happening to our country right now! Bailouts & government takeovers!!! You can't take anything for granted anymore. You've got to nip it in the bud quickly - real quick - & then move on to the next item on the agenda. Or in our case, make sure it never gets on the agenda! BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
