And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...Announced attendance at the Liberty Bowl for Memphis vs. East Carolina:
4,117.
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...What is probably even more sad is that the ACTUAL attendance was less than 4,000

Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...... nope, just the football...

My thoughts on this. Not only SMU but other programs. With cable, Internet the stadiums are not going to fill up fast. Why go through traffic, paying for tickets when you can watch it on a variety of media? The big programs like USC/Texas will be OK as long as they win. SMU just needs to win.
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...On ones came up with a black out for the internet yet. Be tuff.
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...
That was last year. So far this year, we are averaging more than Marshall, UAB, and Rice, and with 4117 for Memphis, I think we are now ahead of them too. Here are the CUSA attendance averages as of this past Sunday. C-USA Attendance Averages: 1.ECU - 43,171 2.UCF - 39,259 3.UTEP - 32,815 4.USM - 31,084 5.Tulsa - 28,024 6.UH - 27,015 7.Tulane - 26,819 8.UM - 26,246 9.SMU - 23,526 10.MU - 23,183 11.UAB - 19,756 12.Rice - 14,116
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...This goes to what I think is a bigger issue. They were playing a game on Tuesday night - why?? Yes, it got televised on ESPN2, but is there really a benefit to that? Even in-town fans would find it tough to go to a weeknight game, with work the next day and having to get the kids off to school.
You can talk about the TV exposure is good, but who the hell was watching, other than the fans of those two schools? "It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."

Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...Tulane's numbers make me giggle, beacause they literally announce 25K and have (maybe) 5K butts in seats.
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...I think Memphis should have done what Tulane has done so far this year when they have had 4,000 people there: Report 27,000 people and be done with it.
Re: And you thought SMU Football had attendance problems...It is going to be harder for SMU too with a smaller school and having to compete with pro teams like Cowboys and Mavericks. Hopefully winning football can get them up to the 35,000 range
