Not a fan of BLM but I thought he was in the process of having his best game - throwing wise.....It was a brain dead play he was making when he was sacked and that is his problem. His plug falls out of the wall way too often........Personally, I would have stayed with Smith and tried to protect Padron's redshirt - Johnson's medical redshirt, too for that matter................

That's the way I felt. If Robinson and TW would catch a couple beautifully thrown balls, he's 7-9 for well over 100 yards, at least 1 TD, and no INTs for the third game in a row. It was a bonehead play that he fumbled on, but he has been far from a "turnover machine" of late, as some have said on here

In order to medical redshirt he would have t be injured enough to not practice for the entire year as well.

it caused SMU to have to take Padron's redshirt

Um, don't we have another QB on the roster besides Padron?

Was this a kneejerk reaction by the coaching staff to throw Padron in there without giving Braden Smith a chance? Before we know the extent of BLM's injury?

Braden can't be so awful that he can't be trusted to steer the ship for a little while, can he?

Okay, since we are on this play, as Mitchell was going down, it looked like his arm was moving forward. Yes, it might have been called intentional grounding, but when I saw the slow motion replay several times (because they reviewed it for placement) it looked like Bo was moving his arm forward as he was thrown down, so in my view it should have been an incomplete pass not a fumble using the Marshall game referee standard of fumbles. And when the ref came back after the review and said SMU ball, I thought it was the right call. This is similar to when they reviewed Sanders "incompletion" when the question was the spot. Surprised everyone including the TV announcers.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

When I watched this play it looked like it was going to be a shuttle pass to McNeal.
One of the Houston D Lineman tackled McNeal & it blew up the play.
BLM had plenty of time to get rid of it. As he's running I'm sure everyone of us are thinking " what the hell is he doing"? The rest is history.

I also thought BLM was having a very good game up to that point.
Like many have mentioned though, you just sit there waiting for this type of play to happen from him every game.

I think this is what it was, or at least I hope...Me and my friend had the same feeling...WTF was that....with no pressure on him, he side sprints away from his blockers and back into the endzone without ever being in position to throw the ball...If it was supposed to be a shuttle pass that blew up, he should have just thrown it away..what a costly TO that was...

From what I have been told, it was supposed to be a screen, and the way Houston defends screens is to outright tackle the tailback.

Who runs a screen from that spot on the field, rolling opposite his throwing arm...

Based upon all the above post I would say the answer to the original question is a definitive NO.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I just watched the play again and as Shawbrey's turning around for a middle screen, he's taken down and the defender lays on him so the play's blown up...at that point he tries to scramble to make something of the play. With his back against the goal line, he probably should have thrown the ball awaythe second he's out of the tackle box but I think it's a little unfair to lay too much blame on him for this play. BTW, the play immediately before this one, Sanders drops a 30 yard pass that hits him in both hands. I've been exasperated by him in the past but I think he was finally getting the offense and looking very comfortable.
