Jim Hicks at RCS Sports had this to say:

Around 6pm, Johnathan Greenaway unleashed a text to various friends and family to announce that Leslee Smith 6'8 f (Christian Life 2010) had committed to Southern Methodist University. The Virgin Islands native had confirmed he was down to SMU and Western Kentucky. Then, he took a visit to the Texas based school a couple weeks ago, and obviously liked it enough to apply serious consideration towards playing for head coach Matt Doherty. Folks, I ain't gonna lie, this is a huge pick up for SMU. They haven't landed a recruit from Houston this good since ex Nimitz HS star, Derrick Roberts from the 2004 class. Smith is currently ranked #78 nationally by ESPN.com.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

I am eating a big turd sandwhich on this one. I did not think we could get him. Doh and his staff deserve a lot of praise for signing a great player.

Lets hope his career turns out a little better than Roberts, good guy but never lived up to his scoring rep.

It tastes as you would expect - like crap. I have been real harsh on SMU athletics recently because I expect SMU to excel in football and basketball with our top notch facilities, eduction opportunities, and proximity to great high school players. I also will admit when I 'get served' I got served on this one. Hopefully, this signing will create momentum towards other good signings.

I will own up also. I had said that since he did not commit on his visit that I felt he was settled on WKU and wanted to get home before announcing. Of course as it turns out he came to SMU with WKU commit already pretty well decided. Excellent job of selling a young man on the benfits of a great school in a great area. Lots of recruiting lessons here that hopefully will be shared with all our athletic departments.

Just a statement of fact, in the article they mentioned he was our best recruit from the Houston area since Roberts.
