Penalties & June Jones penalty

Postby Pony_Fan » Sun Nov 01, 2009 11:57 am

We need to clean this up. What is the problem? False starts, defensive offsides, etc. It has killed drives all year long. I hope it changes soon.

Also, what was Jones complaining about with the refs? I think we started at the 10 yard line
and then got about 30+ yds in penalties.

Coach Jones was bent because Tulsa kept playing music while we were on offense, leading to three straight false start penalties.

As upset as he was, I thought his reaction was pretty mild. Can you imagine how someone like Mike Ditka or Bill Cowher or Rex Ryan or Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops would have reacted? I would have lost my mind if I was in Coach Jones' position.

According to the DMN their defense was also calling out our cadence and count.

Jones continues to demonstrate an abundance of class on the sideline. You swap out a lei for a fedora, and you got Tom Landry all over again.

I didn't mind the penalty. I think Jones needed to get the refs attention somehow. It's also great to have a coach who's universally respected. He RARELY loses his cool, and I think that makes the refs more likely to listen to him. He doesn't have to blow up and act like a clown (e.g. Mike Leach) to get people's attention.

Just compare yesterday with Tulsa's clown, combined with the muted sound, you could tell exactly what string of foul words his was using on his players and assistants.

Yesterday's official, Ed Ardito and his crew are notoriously bad. June can't stand him going back to a couple of games they officiated last season. Tulsa was calling out our cadence, which is illegal. At least the officials were bad on both sides...but we need to cut out the stupid penalties. Seems like it has only been a problem the last few weeks. Maybe some home cooking will do the trick the next 2 weeks.
