Attention Media Wizards

Postby panhandle_pony » Sun Nov 01, 2009 8:24 pm

Today, along Interstate 20 just east of Shreveport I spotted an east bound 18 wheeler with signage on the trailer that read: "UAB Blazers" and below "uabblazers.com". My first thought was that this was a rather economical way to transport the team and/or band to and from the UTEP game. On second thought, I became aware that this vehicle probably couldn't handle the tubas and drums plus the band, so maybe just the team ? Just kidding, but I am curious as to the purpose of this 18 wheeler. Was it for media (TV/cable/radio) and if so, it sure seemed like a large truck for such an enterprise. I looked up the uabblazers.com site and the site specifically referenced the fact that this site is not endorsed by the school or the team, but rather is a site controlled by a UAB alum. My question is both (1) what in the world would such a vehicle transport and for what purpose and (2) if this is a private media outlet of some type wouldn't this be a huge economic drain ? Any thoughts?

SMU has a similar trailer. You have no idea how much cr@p the team travels with until you have seen it for yourself.

Thanks Dooby, I guess I was a little miffed that if the school is the owner or lessee of the 18 wheeler, why they would allow a non-school related website to advertise. I guess just advertising dollars eh ?

well, on the website I linked to, the picture says "uabsports.com"; not "uabblazers.com". Of course, the picture is a year old.

Nope, the signage on the 18 wheeler was definitely "uabblazers.com", so who knows? Another mystery of life.

When I lived on i-10 I pulled alongside all the UF trucks on their way to the Fiesta bowl in Arizona a few years back. Did the gator chomp. They were pumped to see a texas fan. (Im not really a fan, just wanted to do the gator chomp)
