Spikes is kind of a punk. Throwing a punch to the gut or an elbow is one thing, trying to gouge someones eyes out is totally out of line and deserves a much longer suspension. This is as bad as LeGarrette Blount, but maybe worse since he wasn't blatantly provoked

At long last, Tim says something that doesn't scream out "Hello, I'm perfect". I can finally justify my dislike for him.

Urban Crier may keep him out the first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter - just for good measure.

What a tool he is.

Guess one of the dude's eyes would need to have popped out for Meyer to levy a full game suspension.

This should have been a penalty that lasted the rest of the season.Once again there is proof that the NCAA needs a system of strong commissioners that can impose punishments for such an occasion. Embrace the wonder of a strong, centralized power that can motivate through devotion and fear!

Isn't there always some eye-gouging, crotch grabbing/twisting at the bottom of the pile? Why is all of the sudden everyone up in arms about this incident? Not saying it is right, but it is in the heat of battle and should be "officiated" as part of the game.

I bet you could find multiple instances over the course of the year where there was illegal activity of this sorts going on.......this time though, it was Florida.

Yeah I think a deliberate intent to cause serious bodily injury to a player outside the flow of a game should be a severe punshment-more than a game-probably a minimum of 3-6 games. Its arguably a criminal matter. Worse than Oregon RB taking a shot at Boise St. Player. This would not include helmet to helmet type fouls which are really part of the game. Or unintentional fouls.

Understand. My arguement is that if I were the coach of Florida, I would not handle any differently. The officials let the level of play escalate and get out of control and they lost control of the game. Spikes had his helmet ripped off a few times and he got poked in the eye and he retaliated. It gets heated out there and the player lost his cool. If i were coach, I would not want to render punishment down on one of my best players for a stupid reliation move. Also considering no one was hurt.
