Give Me Your IdeasModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Give Me Your Ideas1. The sideline girl has to quit yelling in to the mic. Move it further down, turn down the volume, anything at all. Just. Make. It. Stop.
2. When there is an injured player from either team on the ground, please don't play music. Happened several times this season already. "Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid." John Wayne
"Context clues and common sense can take you a long way in life." Anthony Cann
Re: Give Me Your IdeasDon't know if this is your area, but from the time SMU enters the huddle on offense until the time they snap the ball, canned music, graphics for N O I S E or GETLOUD or whatever should not be pursued.

Re: Give Me Your IdeasWelcome Motown.
My biggest complaint is that several times this year canned music was playing while SMU took a snap!!! That should never happen. You can get penalized for a stadium doing that can't you? I noticed it happened once early in the Rice game.
Re: Give Me Your IdeasPlease, oh please, oh please please please, ditch the KissCam. It either gets no response from couples not paying attention, or the NC-17 toungue-lashing makeout session. It's very weak in the overall presentation and surely something else can be put in its place.
Also, some video spots from former Mustang Greats (Dickerson, James, Levias, Meredith, McIlhenny, Gregg) promoting the team in small snippets with old highlights, and how the glory days are coming back, would be good for fans, recruits. I'm okay with the "For My City" rap song if it helps the players, and this past game, the couple times it played was just about right. As a Mustang band alum, the pre-recorded piped in music playing over the band at any point is annoying. Sometimes it's hard to catch, but your group is doing better at coordinating these music interludes. I'm indifferent on the band being mic'd as long as the echo from the West stands does not distract the musicians. Any times you can mention Peruna over the mic, go for it. It's a cool tradition, and the fans will get behind it. As for the sideline chick, she's just plain hot, so if she wants to gargle saltwater, sign language her points, or laugh like Fran Drescher while giving the reports on the most obvious aspects of souvenirs and upcoming events, let her be. We need her!
Re: Give Me Your Ideassomething consistent prior to the opponent having a 3rd down play. I don't care what it is...you could play Beat It for all I care, so long as it is the same thing. ECU has the bell tolling...actually, now that I'm typing this, I do have a suggestion...
That brings up a UTEP 3rd DOWN...and cue the guitar intro to For Whom the Bell Tolls

Re: Give Me Your Ideas
Whoever told you SMU was an intelligent football crowd was probably on some kind of hallucinogenic substance. Our fans have NO CLUE what to do when the other team is on offense, and often get confused and get louder when SMU's offense has a big 3rd down play. It is entirely appropriate for you to try something, anything to get the fans to get up and get loud on an opponent's 3rd down. Everyone apparently hated Third Down Thunder (though I thought it was at least an attempt and was okay with it). The key not being too "Humble Billy" about it, and the all important timing. Too often the people are so slow to react that if there is any noise at all from the fans, it isn't until the opponent's offense has basically already snapped the ball --- which isn't effective. So whatever exhortation or reminder you choose, make sure it is immediately after the 2nd down play is over. I have noticed a number of other schools will play the bells tolling from the beginning of Hell's Bells, chimes from another song that I can't remember the name, the theme from Gladiator, etc. to rally the fans when the opponent has a 3rd down. (Found a fascinating thread about customizing NCAA Football video game to tunes played in the SEC, which lists tunes actually played for just about every situation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpK1jVg3BAQ. I particularly like Juelz Santana's "The Second Coming" played by Georgia, or for the original, Berlioz Symphony Fantastique in this situation) I don't think we necessarily need to copy them, but some similarly stirring snippet to exhort the fans to cheer. Again, timing is key, since any recorded music or band playing must be cut off when the offense is ready to snap the ball (i.e. the fans have to take it from there, and judging from experience, it takes our fans a LONG time to warm up to the idea of standing up and getting loud). David, I really appreciate you coming on here and being open to comments and critique. Even if you don't agree with the criticism, explaining your thought process goes a LONG way to making us feel more comfortable that at least somebody involved in game presentation knows what the heck they're doing.
Re: Give Me Your IdeasSome other choices for music to encourage 3rd down defensive stops gathered from forums on the NCAA Football Stadium Sounds feature (and we must NOT, under any circumstances, choose the Imperial Marh -- not only is it overdone generally, it is played ad nauseum by our purple rivals):
Tar Heels: 3 6 Mafia/Lil Wyte - Slap dat Sucka Cornhuskers: Back in Black OU: Crazy Train Rutgers: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica Iowa: Machinehead by Bush Wisconsin: Lose Yourself by Eminem By the way, the fact that almost every single Div. I team has something that they consistently chant or play (either band or recorded) on 3rd down defensive plays suggests that we should be doing this if we want to be, oh, Top 100. David, your source who said that it is condescending to exhort the crowd on these key plays is flat out wrong.

Shawnbrey "Real Deal" McNeal I have only been to the Rice game this year since I live in CA, but I though the announcing was good. Good music is always key and I think stuff like "get on your feet!" are always good to pump up the crowd "I love coaching here at SMU University" -June Jones
Re: Give Me Your Ideas
LSU has the "Rocky" theme...complete with a dance that all of the fans do.
