Back in the day would the Mustang Band and Peruna travel to bowl games?

The Mustang Band has been to EVERY BOWL game. With the AD dept in debt up to its ears, it is very unlikely that the Band would be sent to Hawaii.

I hope the AD dept makes a liar of me on this one. The M Band has suffered just as much as the football team (look at our numbers) and they deserve a trip as well.

Don't bowls require/pay for bands to go?

The band does not deserve a trip simply by playing at games. What you should say is that the band will excel in rallying the spirits of our warriors on field. The only ones who truly deserve to go to a bowl game are the ones who do the winning. All others should consider it a privilege.

That's what I don't get either...what kind of coach talks about settling for a lesser bowl when we are tied for the conference lead....He should tell Kate to can the Hawaii Bowl talk, we are still trying to win the conference....

Of course he didn't do it because he wants to go to Hawaii regardless...I liked his hire and like the results this year but he has done some stupid, ego driven stuff along the way...

Hey they will whine no matter what we do....If it's Christmas in Hawaii..."wah wah .."it's too expensive"...."it's too far"...."it's on Christmas eve"....blah blah.... or if we go to the Armed Forces Bowl you'll hear "Gosh what a sucky bowl trip...we get to go back to Cowtown again the same year and play in Amon Dump Carter Stadium...bet the players are really excited about such an exciting trip"........no matter what....someone's not going to like it.

BTW...the 2009 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will kick off Thursday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN....(New Years Eve Day)

"If we win we will go to the Hawaii Bowl"...what kind of stupid [deleted] statement is that? Is he such a loser that he has given up on winning the conference title even though we are currently tied for it.

Every Pony fan should be mad at that statement, and if you aren't, then you are what has been wrong with the program..giving coaches and administrations free passes on the questionable stuff they say and do.

The only thing SMU can do to make such a game is continue to win, but even then our destiny is in the hands of another faction's performance. Proclaiming that we are aiming for a destiny other than one we can control is potentially setting ourselves up for disappointment. Do not fear, though, for our general's desire to win all remaining games coincides with what we must do in order to step in and fill a position in the conference championship should Houston fall.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I consider WINNING to be the only reward I need as a fan. If playing in Hawaii helps recruiting, helps big time with publicity (Jones returns to Hawaii.... would be best if vs. Hawaii but I guess that isn't happening) rewards the players, I'm OK with it because those things bring more wins for me to enjoy in future years.

We have not smelled the postseason in 25 years and now you're mad at the coach who took us from 1-11 to a possible bowl berth in one season because you think he ought to be talking about winning the conference and going to a different bowl than the one he wants to go to? We are not going to win our division, UH is. You are what is wrong with this program.
