Re: How many militaryAs a tribute to my father who passed on Memorial day of 08.
He was ROTC of North Dalls High School and Army Air Corps for WWII. Flew gliders to drop off paratroopers into Germany. Made it back with the help of a 1x6 to keep his neck from breaking while being picked up. really. He saw my mother as she walked down the stairs of Dallas Hall after the war. She had graduated from Adamson HS ( oak cliff ) and taught mathmatics at SMU. First date was Cliff Springs and swimming. 3 months later married. My dad worked at Volkes Bros. Shoes at night and graduated in 3 years with BBA. I would like to thank my Dad for showing me what a man should be. Hard working, frugal and loving. I sure wish people were like they used to be. No credit cards, o debt and a focus on doing a good job. Have you ever looked up Benjemin Franklin and welfare. Google that and learn. Love to al the TRY and LEARN Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: How many military
Just as an aside...I never actually set foot on land in the country of Vietnam and damn glad I didn't...I was just off shore and as close as I wanted to be. Many a brave Soldier, Seaman, Airman and Marine, enlisted and Officers, spent time in Vietnam and many paid the ultimate price fighting for the U.S.A. ...their life. We must NEVER forget the sacrifices all those brave people through out our history, both dead and living, have made in the service of protecting you and me, our country and our freedom. Much heart felt thanks to not only the Vietnam era armed forces, but all of those through out our history and up to today who have bravely taken on the responsibilities of keeping us safe and maintaining our freedom. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: How many militaryHello all,
This is my first post on Ponyfans.com but thought it was fitting since I have been following this board for years and I am an SMU Alumni that is currently on active duty in the Air Force. Its cool to see so many SMU fans and Alumni that have served, are serving, or are related to someone who has served. I am currently stationed in Japan at Misawa AB where I fly the mighty F-16. I proudly wear my SMU football T-shirt underneath my flight suit on fridays since our squadron shirt is red, although they dont know its not the squadron shirt unnderneath but my red SMU Football T-shirt! There is a good friend of mine who is also an SMU alumn serving on active duty in the Air Force flying the F-15 who actually played ball at SMU when he was in school. Both of us cant wait to see if we end up playing AF in Fort Worth for the Armed Forces Bowl. If we do, I will be flying all the way from Japan to see the game. Whats more I will rub in the win to all the Air Force Academy guys I work with when I get back!! Go Stangs!!! Cheers, Jetnfast
