SMU seeks season's sixth win vs. UTEP

UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU twice has come oh-so-close to breaking through to a bowl game since returning in 1989 from the NCAA's death penalty.
To this point, the near-misses have defined the program's mostly agonizing restoration project. The Mustangs still haven't been bowling since 1984's Aloha Bowl.
While SMU has more wiggle room than in past situations, coach June Jones still heeds the history of the 1997 and 2006 seasons as the Mustangs get their first chance of three at bowl eligibility today against UTEP.
