Espn is petitioning the conference for hawaii. That is a dead bowl for them and think our story will make it better. Ask a beat writer and I will be confirmed

And of course jj is not saying stop

Question: what's the money for the CUSA championship game?
(sorry if I missed that elsewhere)

Comment: Sentiment from Jones for Hawaii does not mean Hawaii will invite SMU.

Comment 2: SMU may be bowl eligible, but we HAVE to win 1 more game to be assured of getting a bowl invite. I think 6-6 means we stay home, just like 2006.

I think Jones' allegiance is to his players with whom he set a goal of going to Hawaii, as opposed to the Dallas-area Ponyfans that I'm sure he remembers staying away in droves when he brought his Hawaii teams to Ford

I'm all for allegiances and everything, but whether we want it or not it's in the school's best interest to go to the best bowl possible. There's nothing wrong with setting a goal for Hawaii, but when your performance exceeds the level of that goal, shouldn't you adjust and go to the best spot possible??? Would he turn down a BCS bowl if he had the opportunity just because he set a goal of going to Hawaii?

Orsini said before the season started we'd accept Hawaii bid UNLESS we won the conference, then we'd go to the Liberty Bowl.
I think it would be sorry to back out of the Liberty Bowl.

I did't hear Jones say that. Was it in his radio interview?
Obviously the Liberty Bowl would be better for SMU - fan-wise and money-wise. $1.8mil vs. 700Gs?
Why would Hawaii be better for SMU?

okay this is coming from one of Hawaiis biggest fans( i got to witness everything he did for 9 years)... You guys(mostly bagice) may think you know JJ as a coach but you really dont... I'll enlighten you... here are the reason why JJ wants the bowl game in Hawaii and not the Liberty bowl...

1. Why does he want to put the programs up and coming presitge at risk by facing a bottom of the barrel SEC team, sure they may be equivalent to the upper tier midmajors but really do you want to let them prove it on the field? why not just let the pundits wonder if SMU really belongs now...

2. Playing a team from the WAC in the Hawaii bowl would be better for a number of reasons such as JJ already know what to expect from the teams in the WAC, how to prepare for a game in Hawaii, getting the exposure of being the only bowl game being played that day( the hawaii bowl has been getting around 2.5-3 million viewers, thats huge for a mid major bowl), and its the best shot at finishing the season with a winning note.

3. If it were a BCS bowl i guarantee you JJ would take the BCS bowl, cmon thats a no brainer... JJ is all about publicity but not neccessarily in a bad way. Publicity is good for recruiting, finishing off the season with a win especially in a bowl game is good for recruiting, getting exposure and perhaps beating a WAC team is good for recruiting but imagine what getting blown out by a bottom sec team would do, you got it, absolutely nothing for SMU... at least this way you get to keep the hype alive and the excitement... why ruin it, or risk ruining it???

again finishing the season strong and with a win in a bowl game is huge for 2 things, keeping momentum alive for next season and the very obvious, leaving a positive note in the minds of young recruits...

If you guys want to relive the past 25 years go ahead, it may help you appreciate what JJ has actually done here... and if you guys need some comparisons, look at Hawaii while JJ was there, and now after he left... JJ = wins no JJ = losses

There is no way his contract could say that with any validity. Simply not contractually possible.

SMU would get significantly more publicity playing in the Independence Bowl than the Hawaii Bowl - it would mean that SMU was the conference champion and, hence, make a much bigger story.

SMU would get more local pub at the independence (I think you mean Liberty Bowl) bowl but they would get more national pub at the Hawaii bowl. And we could still win the conference hampionship and go to the Hawaii. That would even get bigger national pub.

no you'd be surprised... im willing to bet there will be atleast 5-10K SMU fans in Hawaii if the bowl game is there...

youre not backing away from tough games ur choosing your fights wisely... would you really rather lose to an sec team vs winning a game vs a wac team, which will affect not only the morale of fans and players, but not to mention the potential recruits... Youre not exactly TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, or even A&M... Why risk losing the hype?? maybe you guys are too use to losing that it doesnt faze you...

You are totally on dope if you think there would be any more then 1,000 SMU fans in Hawaii on Christmas eve when you cant get back in time for Christmas day....

We all want to go - but that is the hardest place to get of all the bowls unless they have added one in Fairbanks.

Good point Mustang Musashi, we need to go to a bowl game that gives us the best chance to win.

LOL how much you want to bet, that there will be 5-10k SMU fans going to Hawaii if the bowl game is there?? why? its the first bowl game in 25 years, what die hard true blue SMU fan would not go no matter where or when it is... youre acting as if SMU has gone bowling the majority of the past 25 years and the bowl game in Hawaii is just another bowl game that could be passed up... this bowl game for SMU is the equivalent of Hawaiis bowl game in Neworleans in 2007... only difference is Hawaii may never get to the BCS bowl again, yet SMU will be bowling at least the next 2 out of 3 years...

lets remember...if not for JJ, Hawaii bowl would probably not even consider SMU and we might have been left out in the cold again even after becoming bowl eligible.

JJ has earned the right to make the decision...even though it might mean less fans could go.
