Who Else Fought Back Tears?

Postby Pony94 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:01 pm

Since the Death Penalty, SMU has 41 home wins including tonight. I arrived in 1990 and at my first game experienced what became a rare occurrence, the SMU home win...or frankly, a win anywhere. After that first game, my in person victories were few and far between. I missed the TCU and Houston wins in 92...home to see a girlfriend...that b****. I went to few games after graduation...unfortunately, like many young alumni, but in 2001 upon moving back to Texas bought season tickets and the flame was lit again. However, yet again, the wins were few and far between. Weddings prevented witnessing a win in 2004 and 2005 and my friends who ended up using my tickets were able to see more wins at Gerald J than I ever had. 2006 was oh so close, 2007 and 2008, back to the bottom.

But tonight....I fought back tears as our students ran on to the field, not because a freak upset of a rival, but because, we were the better team. I am jealous of those students and I am certainly hopeful, they do not make the mistake I made and miss games after graduation. I know this will rekindle a pride in our team and in our alma mater that has been lacking. I am proud of our fans...who cheered like we have never seen at Ford stadium. I had so much fun with all of the other fans in our section, whom I have sat with for several seasons...there was so much joy!!!!

Way to go Mustangs!!!!

Put me down on the list. Heck yeah it was emotional. As I was hooping and hollering after the game down on the field I thought back on all the heartbreaks, all the losses we went through together to get to this moment. It's been a long, long road. Yeah I fought back tears when I thought of all the great fans that have since left us and know they are looking down from heaven tonight happy for SMU. The Mustangs are back.

Yeah me too.

As an 11 year old kid I badgered my Dad that we weren't going to win against Roger Staubach's
No. 2 ranked NAVY team as he listened on the radio in 1963.

Remembered during UTEP's last drive this very same situation. I listened with my Dad on
the radio as NAVY is driving on our goal, and has a 4th down, and goal from the 8 yard line.

Results = the same as tonight :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
May the forth be with us.

I think anybody that has been with SMU for the long haul is guilty of having some waterworks today. I am looking forward to crying even harder after we win our first conference championship back from DP, as well as bowl game!

I don’t cry at football games.

But do you know that X mustang football cheer leader that’s been to like every away game since he was born? I walked straight up to him after the game and gave him a giant bear hug. See yea in Marshall!

Very surreal, emotional night for Mustang fans. It's pretty obvious, the direction SMU is going, PONY UP!

Guilty.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

it was a little dusty at the FWMustang house...and we were only listening on the radio. Just a huge feeling of relief on TT's sack.
