More than we'd get at a bowl game in beautiful, sunny Hawaii.

It will be more than Hawaii...

Not to mention all the other attributes of the game, more pay, better teams, ect...

Like mentioned before, if we keep winning the extra donations will take care of that and more. I would not like this team to take a beatdown at the hands of an SEC opponent in their first bowl in 25 years. But I guess I could be selfish and want something that is more convenient for me as an individual.

Why are you so deadset on assuming a beat down???? Don't you have any faith??? Seems like a pretty scared attitude to me. Why not root for a huge victory over a better team??

You can live in fantasy land all you want. But TCU beat us by over 20 and so did UH. The main reason I like Hawaii even though I would not be going of because of the national exposure which helps recruiting.

Seriously, does JJ call the shots at SMU football? Or does the SMU President, AD, boosters, and money donors dictate if SMU goes to the Hawaii Bowl?

If the money donors make it worth while for SMU to go to Hawaii, so be it. But I would feel really better if JJ wins the next two games and then SMU goes to the Liberty Bowl. That would give next year's players and coaches the incentive to play for a winning season and an automatic Hawaii Bowl vacation next year. A Hawaii Bowl appearance next year would also help recruiting if high school players know that SMU might have a good chance to go to Hawaii next year. Hawaii has very little chance to qualify for the Hawaii Bowl this year. The Warriors will have a lot better chance next year to qualify for the Hawii Bowl. A Hawaii vs SMU game next year will draw more interest.

But I have to think it is not just JJ but the money donors and boosters who want to go to Hawaii this year. And probably the players and coaches.

There is no guarantee we would beat an opponent from the WAC, so I would rather lose to an SEC team than a WAC team!!!

I guess you could call it living in fantasy land, but I'll bet a lot of people would've called it living in fantasy land a couple weeks ago to think that we'd be able to control our own destiny in the conference with only two games left. Look how that's turning out. If you honestly think SMU playing Nevada, Idaho, etc. is going to give us more national exposure than playing a team from the best conference in the land (which routinely draws great ratings no matter who's playing in the conference) then I guess you're entitled to your opinion. I have a feeling that SMU going to a bowl like the Liberty bowl will help recruiting every bit as much and more than going to Hawaii. That's my opinion. Let's roll the dice and see how we come out. If you don't aim big, you can't achieve big.

It's not all about the money. Right now - this time, it should be about the players and coaches.

I'm sure the players and coaches would rather be in sunny Hawaii. Several coaches get a nice return to a familiar place.

Jones and company will have the hook-up in Hawaii -- the team will be treated right and wined and dined.

By virtue of June Jones, SMU will have more "fans" at the Hawaii Bowl than we would have if we were at the Armed Services Bowl.

If the school is focused on the money, they shouldn't have waited so long to put a real effort into turning things around.

Again, right now - this time.

Ok, Here's the scene. Your a coach sitting in the living room of a player in noname Texas or LA and you say come to SMU and you will get to go to a bowl. Last year we went to Hawaii or you say last year we went to Memphis. Which is going to impress a kid more. I think Hawaii. Another scenario, your a typical apathetic SMU student. Will you ask Daddy for funds to go to Hawaii or Memphis. Again, I think Hawaii wins. In my mind recruiting and student body involvement should count more than my convenience.

This is funny. You are talking about money that isn't ours. The conference splits the bowl payout equally after expenses. So we are not talking about $1,000,000; we are talking about nothing. Regardless of whether we go or not, we will get the same money from the liberty bowl payout.

The only legitimate financial argument is that going to Hawaii is more expensive for the school and the fans. Can't dispute the cost to the fans, but most bowl games require schools to buy a certain # of tickets, and the Hawaii bowl has the lowest ticket obligation of any bowl.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I still can't understand any argument for Hawaii over Memphis if we win the conference. Besides the fact that very few of us could even make the bowl in Hawaii, passing up the opportunity to play an SEC opponent vs. Hawaii in a bowl would be a huge mistake. We have so much more to gain playing against the SEC and little to lose.
