I just worry about you. If you are going to get this upset after a big win regardless of the stats, what is going to happen IF we ever lose again? We cannot afford to lose any fans, especially to heart attack or stroke.

We are just different..You would be tickled to beat Hockaday 51-50. I would be questioning how Hockaday scored 50.

Let's not forget we are still very young. Remember we traveled to Tulsa with 48 freshman and sophomores.

OK LHP this is why I have problems with your ranting. You know exactly why "Hockaday" scored 50 points. We are not that good on defense. Our defense gave up 38 points a game last year and other than a couple of JUCOs who have been very good, we are playing with the same players or replacement freshmen. We do not purposely play bend don't break, the other teams are actually bending us and at times breaking us. But what excites me in beating "Hockaday" by 1 is that last year we would have lost. This team is finding a way to progress with what they have and make positives happen. They are fast, opportunistic, and well coached. They just do not have experience, size, and in some cases, ability to match up with some of our competition. The fact that they won last night gives me hope that we may actually have a chance the next time we go into overtime. Positive attitude can help a lot with a young, outmatched team. Last night we played the # 4 running back in the country, and a QB that is not only experienced, but also very good. We gave up yards on the ground and in the air, and guess what, we won. That is where it is different than last year. We did not drop the ball in the end zone late in the game. We did not drop a first down clinching pass late in the game. Instead, we made a 4th quarter great pass and catch, stopped a team on 3rd and short when we had to get the ball back, and stopped a team on 4 downs from the 15 yard line with the game on the line. That my Lake Highlands friend is why I am happy today. 5 years from now, the same performance may draw the same rant from me, but not today, no sir, not today.

Five years from now, we may be doing that in a BCS bowl.

RedTapestry wrote:No problem with the criticism LHP. There will be a time, years from now, when the quality of a win will be something to argue. I think our lack of depth prevents us from anything approaching a dominating victory or defensive performance. Dooby's comments are spot on also.

Big picture, we are trying to recruit our way to a 2-deep, and recruits only see "6-4" "first place" and "bowl game" not "Bukram 246 yards." And the recruits are who I am concerned about impressing, personally.

We can all see a tangible improvement in the way this team plays. It is so obvious to the naked eye that the win total and the bowl this year was not so crucial - we could tell that was a matter of when not if. But they have really overachieved this year and surpassed whatever expectations we might have had. Really proud of what is going on there.

If we want to get upset about something, Sterling Moore is an irreplaceable loss, probably more important than anyone but McNeal.

On the nose comment. Unlike past years, this year we have matched up physically against everyone we have played with the exception of TCU and possibly Navy's offense. I haven't seen anyone in CUSA play defense. I think that where we are is typical of non-BCS division teams: We have a decent offense, a poor defense, and very little depth. That makes us an average non BCS team. Fortunately, we have found a coach who has taught these guys that if they try, they can find ways to win. We found ways to lose to Navy and WSU, and we found ways to beat UTEP and Rice. I think we have the talent to beat Houston, and if we played them 10 games I think we would win 3 or 4 of those games. I for one am ready to celebrate being bowl eligible after the last few horrendous seasons.

That "scrub" had some great numbers last year, making this year's pedestrian stats somewhat surprising. He has talent, runs pretty well for a guy who doesn't scramble much and has a really strong arm. He's no scrub at all.
