On my Honeymoon, my wife and I were driving through Maui listening to Country Station (not sure why). A song ended and then the signal went out for 40 minutes. Not static-silence. Like the DJ went outside to smoke a cigarette and locked himself out. And we stuck with it because I wanted to know how long a station would stay off the air. The silence was surreal.

I have never heard a radio station in DFW drop out for 40 seconds, much less, 40 minutes. You can lose your license for things like that.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I fear that SEC beatdown too but Nevada's kicking some [deleted] themselves. I'm not so sure Boise is going to walk-over Nevada in their matchup for the championship which will be played at Reno. Nevada is one of the hottest teams in the country right now. Fresno would probably make a better opponent.

I disagree with this. Lose to an SEC opponent--expected. Losing to Fresno or Nevada would be bad. Beating an SEC opponent--HUGE. Beating Fresno--who would care but us?

Bowl games are funny things. Teams from BCS conferences coming off disappointing seasons often lose to motivated teams looking for a big win. (It isn't like we would be going in against Florida or Alabama.) Plus add in a couple of Arkansas or South Carolina players who don't give a [deleted] about playing SMU going out on Beale St. for New Years Eve and getting suspended....

Personally, I think the risk versus reward is far better for SMU in Memphis. Besides, what kind of attitude is that? We'd rather go for an easier game than seize the opportunity to play in January and make a statement? Plus, how fun would it be to take a crack at Spurrier or Petrino!

And Orsini says this just now by email through SID:

“As a member institution of Conference USA, one of the many benefits to SMU is
the opportunity to participate in one of the large number of high-quality bowl
games with which C-USA has agreements. The agreements provide for an order of
selection and generally enable the bowls to select the teams of their choice to
participate in their games. Thanks to the hard work of our football
student-athletes, led by Coach June Jones and his fine staff, SMU is an
attractive, bowl-eligible program again. If and when SMU is granted the
opportunity, we look forward to working through the Conference USA office to
learn where we will be sent this bowl season.” - Steve Orsini

I really want to see SMU v Fresno at the Hawaii Bowl.

42-0.

aside from that drubbing, Fresno's the only team besides UH I've seen score 90+ points against a team I was pulling for.

Stallion, RGV, or really anybody.....fill in the blanks below.

This is not a set-up gotcha later question....I really would like to know what
people predict we would travel if we get to play in one of these two bowls.

SMU would travel roughly about _________ fans to Memphis in January.

SMU would travel roughly about _________ fans to Hawaii in December.

6,000 to Liberty
2,000 to Hawaii

but not everyone would be the DFW area.

I am curious as to what Mr. Pony would predict on each of those.

Only numbers I can give for sure

Memphis: 1
Hawaii: 0

However, if Ponyfans is any indication, there is a much larger percentage going to Memphis than Hawaii. Granted Ponyfans is a very skewed test group

The players I've spoken with around campus seem pretty set on Hawaii, and excited about the prospect of playing there. They seemed to like the idea of Christmas in the Aloha State (who wouldnt).

My only concern is that if the players read these comments form June, it may take away some of the desire and urgency to take advantage of this situation and actually win CUSA. Its almost like win or lose, we know where we are going, and there is no reward for winning out, other than bragging rights and a banner.

I guess if the bowl payout does go to a communal pot before distribution, I wouldnt be as upset about playing for 700g vs. 1.7m, but for me, traveling to Memphis is a realistic option, while Hawaii is not.

Don't know about Auburn, but even a couple of Cavan's teams had their way with the Arkansas hogs.
:)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

The players know nothing is guaranteed until 7 wins. They will play hard vs Marshall to get that 7th win.

1,500 Hawaii
20,000 Memphis, give or take
Add Auburn or the Hogs bringing 35-40 and you've got a nice little get together.
:D
I don't see Aloha Bowl breaking 45,000.
