Ivan Maisel is a dip!

1. Do I like that fact that there are 3 million bowl games--->No. But it doesn't matter. If SMU qualifies for one of the 34 bowls, they go and we will enjoy. It's one more chance to compare SMU to the competition.

2. What happened to ECU, Tulsa, and UTEP. I guess he forgot to mention those guys. Not that they are great, but more than redeem our losses.

3. Mediocrity? Last time I checked, 6-4 in Conference USA is more than mediocrity. Mediocrity is the last 20 years. But I guess "If you're a purist...."

Don't get me wrong, by no means are "we back". We still have a long way to go and I think consistency will be the key year over year. But I do think what JJ has done warrants some recognition of the fact that his formula is working, even at SMU. And Maisel is still a dip.

I didn't read it that way!!! The truth of the matter is that what the team has accomplished and can accomplish this season is incredible!! Yet, even if we do keep winning, a team that loses to a winless Washington State team is not good!! Like it or not, CUSA is rated as the 8/9th best conference out of 11 that play division IA football. Until we consistently beat some middle of the road BCS teams, we will be looked at as mediocre!! I will take mediocrity over what we have had the last 20 + years which is terrible!!!

I think the rankings have us hovering around 60th in all of college football and there are around 120 teams in IA football. Mediocre means not good, not bad. That is what we are right now! For the record, I am pumped about our season!!! Nonetheless, we need to build on this year! I know that most of the old-timers are not satisfied with having us at the level we are at. Everyone is excited about the giant leap forward and the future which is bright as it can be!!!

Dude, PAY ATTENTION. Maisel is saying that us going is a GOOD thing. He is simply deflecting any argument he knows (and we all know, admit it) is coming his way.

The u of t is the perfect example of what is wrong with intercollegiate athletics. They are the NY Yankees of college football. Should a team with an athletic budget of 100 million look down their noses at others. Money, money, money. They exploit their players raking in millions that pay for all of the athletic teams on campus while their players get a $25,000 a year public education, are isolated from the student body and until recently their graduation rates were terrible. But they get great memories competing for national championships. SMU guys are getting the $50,000 a year education in one of the great cities of the world and are part of one of the rising success stories in college football....and look at the graduation rates? Once the NCAA limited the number of scholarships back in the 70's and teams like UT couldn't lock up many of the top players in the state, they struggled for years until they figured out that they would do it with top facilities and the best college coaches they could hire that were great recruiters. They are like hamsters on a treadmill. They can't afford to lose or the revenue loss would put them in dire financial straits. They would make great hedge fund managers. So sad to have that kind of pressure.

the truth hurts; there's a difference in being bowl eligible and bowl deserving. we are 6-4 but have been outscored on the year by our opponents, 294-278 and are the only team to lose to Wash State. We basically got whipped by the 2 teams we've played that are top 25 caliber teams

If these guys can find a way to run the table and go 10-4, the pundits will talk about this as having been a team that got better week after week (after changing QBs) and played it's best football at the end of the season.

bottom line is that we haven't beaten a team that has a quality win outside of CUSA. I can't wait for that day to come. maybe in a bowl game?
