Bracket Buster '04

Post by RE Tycoon »

ESPN released the EXPANDED brackets for their anual "Bracket Buster Tourney". They more than doubled the field this year, and yet no SMU. The WAC teams that made the cut are Hawaii, Fresno St., Nevada, Rice, and Tulsa. I can understand all of those picks EXCEPT Rice. They play in a High School Gym and they get a HOME game? While we don't get a game at all. My question for those in the know is this...is this a simple scheduling conflict (we do play a game against La Tech on Feb.21, but you imagine that can be moved). Or, is this merely an ineptitude by the powers that be (Dement, copeland, etc.)to chase these types of events?

Dement REALLY wanted us to be in the Bracket Busters, but ESPN & the WAC selected the teams. Individual schools had no say in the matter. The blame lies with ESPN & the WAC, not SMU.

Andy Katz notes SMU's exclusion in his article today: <A HREF="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=1612523" TARGET=_blank>http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=1612523</A>
