Player Eligibility for Bowl Games

Postby diamond_tom » Sun Nov 15, 2009 3:45 pm

This is something we've not had to worry about for quite some time.

Anyone know the rules on players being eligible for a bowl game - grade / gpa -wise?

Do the players have to pass all of their classes to be eligible? Do they have to maintain a certain GPA?

Any insiders know how the players are doing academically?

They can't be failing from my understanding.

I believe this will be a problem for several players on the team. I hope they take these last weeks of the semester seriously, and get their grades in order.

I am going to make a statement here and please do not take it wrong or make it into a point of hearted discussion. It is just a personal feeling. And this is very unlike me. But, if we get to a bowl game this year anywhere, I do not care if we win or lose. Right now I just want the exposure and extra practice. There will be no way to properly get these kids to concentrate on winning especially in Hawaii. This is one time the bowl game will truly be a gift for a job well done. As we improve things will change and attitudes will change but for now I think that is why Jones wants Hawaii (other than the obvious personal desire) and that is to reward the kids with a beautiful trip, not to put another win on the books.

And this is why I want at least 7 wins. It would be depressing to end the season with a losing record.

Not a problem at all.
