From the Dallas Morning News:

SMU freshman QB Padron shows a winning touch

UNIVERSITY PARK – SMU freshman quarterback Kyle Padron kidded that he used to beg family members to attend his games – they certainly didn't expect him, then the third-stringer, to play.

But Padron, much like the Mustangs as a whole, improved ahead of schedule.

Interesting that he thinks he isn't making his reads fast enough. Tough to tell from the internet feed, but I have thought that aspect has looked pretty solid. A few ill-advised throws here and there, but his timing seems great. (Granted after I finish watching him every week, I turn to the husker game to watch a QB who is slower than Kyle Orton. So maybe he just seems to be making his reads fast by comparison.)

"Padron still gets nervous, but hasn't shown it when the game is on the line.

With SMU trailing in the fourth quarter last week, he led a clutch drive, including a 37-yard TD pass to Sanders.

"He's made plays under pressure, when we had to have them," Jones said."

This is what excites me most about Padron...he (unlike what I've seen of BLM in certain instances) has the late-game mindset of a winner. Add that to his athleticism/frame/etc., his potential is so high.

Nice story. He has a long way to go, in terms of developing as a college quarterback, but the physical gifts he brings to the game can't be taught. As they say ... so far, so good.

As is to be expected of a frontrunners' town like Dallas, it's nice to see the Ponies getting some play in the paper. Keep it up - on both counts.
