A guarantee is typically offered to a lower level team by an upper level team to offset travel etc. or to off set a 2 for 1 game (2 away 1 at home) schedule. In reality this usually gurantees a win for the home team as well as padding the pockets of lower budget programs. On a home and home, with teams of like caliber, the gurantees usually are equal and help keep budgeting in line on a yearly basis.
