"Moore" from Sterling Moore

Postby PonyPride » Mon Nov 23, 2009 5:55 pm

Talked again today with Sterling Moore, who was walking with a visible limp and visibly swollen knee after Monday morning's running session. Moore said he will not need surgery, because his MRI showed no ligament tear in the (left) knee he injured against UTEP.

"They said it's an MCL sprain, and the retinacular tissue is torn away from the kneecap," he said. "I got the knee drained yesterday, so now it's a waiting game to see how quickly the swelling goes down.

"They (doctors) said there's a chance I can play in the bowl game, but it's only a chance. I hope I can, of course, but a lot of that is me being optimistic."

Moore sounded like the chance of returning to the field this season is slim, and added that if he does, he might well be limited in what he can do.

"If the swelling goes down enough, I want to try," he said, "but I'll probably have to play in a brace to keep it stable."

Which brings me to a question. Who all gets to go to Hawaii from a team perspective. If you are injured and cannot play do you still get to go? If you are a redshirt do you still get to go? If you have not participated in a game this year and most likely will not play, do you still get to go? I want to see as many go as possible but I do not know if there are some NCAA or school guidelines on who or how many get to go.

And thanks for the update and get well Sterling. We need you more next year than the remainder of this one.

Everyone goes and everyone dresses. Redshirts and all walk-ons. It is a reward for EVERYONE.

They will practice the same way and keep improving.

JJ has a different regular season policy than most coaches in that he doesn't dress as many at home as he could, particularly for non conference games. This is the chance and the right time to suit them all up.

Again, they all have earned it.

I think there are NCAA rules on how many can dress for a game aren't there. That is why I was wondering if the same applies for Bowl games.

For non-conference home games, there is no limit.

I believe the same holds true for bowl games.

JJ usually dresses about 64, home and away.

He could dress all 100 for games like SFA and Navy, but he chooses not to. Little different.

I am almost 100% that everyone gets to dress.

They should.

Long ago, Redshirts didn't make the bowl game. It was an eligibility thing. This was some 30 years ago so things may have changed. In 1980, all those eligible (including injured) went to the bowl game.

Seemed a bit unfair as there were some good players redshirted and on the scout teams that really help prepare the team for games but didn’t get to go bowling. Non redshirted players on the scout team did get to go. All worked hard but some couldn’t go just because they were redshirted. I hope things have changed.

Kind of a related question. Is not there an NCAA limit on squad size and if so, what is it. One-hundred and twenty (120) comes to mind but I'm not sure.

I certainly agree that all who participated / contributed in any way should get to make the trip.

Best wishes to Sterling Moore.
