I agree with Stallion. We all hope that one day SMU will be highly ranked and playing for a national championship. Well, to do that a team needs attention, and I cannot think of a better way for SMU to get national attention than to beat their crosstown rival who has a recent history of winning a national championship or ending up ranked in the top 2 or 3.

It is very short sighted thinking to hope that TCU loses so we can steal/keep a few recruits. Success by TCU shows future recruits that small private schools in DFW can succeed at the highest level and makes the recruiting pool deeper for both SMU and TCU. I do not look forward to just stealing recruits from TCU in the future, I look forward to getting recruits that top Big 12 teams want.

You hit the nail on the head. TCU will not be able to play in the National Championship, even if Fla. Ala. and Texas were to somehow disappear. The BCS is throwing out more bowls/bones, 34 now? The only reason is to keep the wolves at bay.

Somehow this thing has to be ended. SMU will never win a National Championship unless they get into a BCS conference or the BCS is given the DP.

Stallion,

Here is my biggest concern with your theory.

To date the only real threat to the BCS supremacy has come from a handful of schools that could easily be combined into 1 conference, i.e. MVC + Boise State and Fresno State.

I view C-USA as only a slight upgrade over the Sunbelt Conference.

What happens if the BCS relents, allows this 1 new conference into the fold, then close ranks.

Bye Bye Orrin Hatch as an advocate for SMU.

And unless we can associate with this new conference…they probably would take Houston over us…bye bye SMU football.

I am not willing to take that risk at this time. Give SMU a few years of success, then we talk realignment.

Oh…and a big Thank You to Dr. Pye and Turner for your insightful 20+ year strategic thinking.

Go TCU. I like the chaos and the BCS buster.

Boise has done it for years. Loved it when they beat Oklahoma. I think TCU would beat up on Cinci pretty easily. To play Georgia Tech would be an insult.

I want to see TCU beat whoever they play...whether it is Ga Tech in the Orange Bowl or Penn State in the Fiesta...and want to see Boise State play and beat either Clemson in the Orange Bowl or Iowa/Penn State in the Fiesta.

What I'd really like to see if Texas win the BCS Championshp game and then have to play an undefeated TCU team for the Texas State Championship

I do agree the Sugar Bowl will likely pit the SEC Championship game loser against Cincy...they would not want to risk the mighty SEC losing 2 years in a row to a non-BCS team. Most folks around here continue to believe Bama was just down against Utah last year. They will use the same excuse if Cincy beats them this year

Stallion is right...the BCS is the enemy

Stallion and all these people cheering for "BCS Busters"-

Haven't we already been here before? Haven't there been multiple "bcs busting" teams in the very recent past?
(undefeated UTAH or BOISE ST. taking down Alabama and Oklahoma)

What happened as a result???

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. NOR WILL ANYTHING HAPPEN IF TCU GETS SHUT OUT THIS YEAR

It's not going to make a damn bit of difference. There is no "cheer for the scenario that makes the bcs look bad".

It has happened multiple times with nothing significant resulting.

I'm just going to be honest, but since it has been over 10 years since we have been in the same conference this rivalry has gone down hill really fast. Yeah this rivalry has a rich tradition, but as of the last 10 years and looking at our conference I feel like we are starting to develop more of a rivalry with teams in our conference such as Houston, Rice, and Tulsa. The reason I say this is because beating these teams can make or break our season and I feel that with houston and tulsa these beating these teams will help determine who represents the west in our conference championship. I hope that the TCU rivalry can build up again and I think it can happen with June Jones at the helm as we will be able to compete with them again. I am just saying that after the past 10 years since they left us alone in the WAC there are other teams that I have grown to hate more than TCU and that is why I don't have a problem rooting for TCU in the bcs

Things in fact have changed. The criteria for inclusion of non-BCS teams has been relaxed significantly and this year under those relaxed standards two non-BCS schools may get in for the first time. Each time a voter considers the Top 25 he has to remember that wait a minute, Boise, Utah, BYU and TCU have handled these BCS boys. Those victories should be cherished by all non-BCS schools because if the BCS runs off about 5 years of routs like Georgia Hawaii then the non-BCS schools may get shut out in the future because "they can't compete"

As for the fear that MWC may ending up being a BCS conference-that's an interesting thought. I think I was one of the few who wasn't so sure TCU made a stupid mistake by joining the MWC-I said let's wait and see because the schools in the MWC had a greater commitment. Now since then I think several CUSA teams have made large strides in the right direction-in fact I believe CUSA will probably have more Top 60 Recruiting Classes than it has ever had. But there are still several schools in the CUSA who really are just happy to exist in Division 1A-and that's a problem as we've seen and probably always see in poor attendance around the conference.
