I just knew mr pony would make a comment here. This first time poster makes a post and we don't even know if it is true at this point and now we are going on something with no concrete proof.

SMU demands $43,000 in tuition...where is the money going besides flowers? I feel like SMU could easily fork over $500,000. At the same time that seems a bit high for 100 people to travel.

are we seriously debating Memphis vs Hawaii A G A I N? Only this time, this time it's after we've accepted a bowl bid? Let's quit [deleted] and come up with a solution.

I personally saw 6 DISD yellow dogs on the way in to Ford, and the way out of Ford last Saturday. Stallion mentioned he thought maybe 2000 kids from the bus program...no way there were 40 buses. So, where's all that $? Let's get it gathered up and send the band and cheerleaders etc.

I'll pony up some $ to rent a shetland out there in Hawaii, and I hope the geldings are there, and I'll donate the first box of cookies to get the band there. Whatever, but let's quit [deleted] (AGAIN) and start talking solution.

AND let's get that 500k number down.

I will say with cheerleading sponsors, band directors, and a few others, I am thinking this number is closer to 140 than 100. Also, the band is close to 90 in members, and the spirit squad (poms and cheerleaders) is at least 30.

Can anyone verify this $500,000 figure or was it just thrown out there by someone upset that we are going to Hawaii instead of Memphis or Ft Worth to stir up controversy?

Look guys...I don't think that $500k number is correct. That being said, the school is working on raising the money. I'm not sure who to contact if you'd like to donate, but I'm sure Ms. White's office would be able to put you in contact with the right people.

I think we should reduce it to a pep band...base it on point system, after those that want to opt out for family reasons do...send 44 band members...ditto the cheerleaders and pom squads

I heard the $500k from SMU. Also, some kids received communications that they are working on getting them there.

I have a quote for a plane charter for ~150 people. It's about 175k.
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

ponyup2009 wrote:This is rediculous. SMU Spirit consists of the Mustang Band, the Cheerleaders, and the Pom Squad. This is a little over 100 people all together. All of these men and women are present at EVERY home game and travel to about 1 or 2 away games each football season. Lori White (VP of Student Affairs) said that $500,000 is needed to have SMU Spirit attend the bowl game in Hawaii. I am pretty sure that every single bowl that SMU has been to they have brought their spirit. I didn't even think it would be a questions on whether or not they would go. But $500,000 seems to be in their way. Dr. White claims that President Turner and the President of SMU Athletics is doing everything they can to come up with this money but it's not looking too good.

With this bowl game being on Christmas Eve, it is very likely that a slim number of students will actually be able to attend. This is why having SMU Spirit there would be crucial.

How devastating it would be for SMU to WIN the Sheraton Hawaii bowl but then have no band, cheer, or pom to play and sing "Varsity" with.

SMU PLEASE LET THEM GO.

For every 50,000 you put in i will drop $10.00
