Band to Hawaii
My sources say it's happening. Also spirit squads.
Thanks to Couch 'em for his generous donation to fund the trip.

Re: Band to Hawaii
As someone said earlier, these bowl games are PR for colleges with national coverage. The reason we need to have the band there is not as a reward for the band members so much as it is a big part of presenting SMU to the nation and putting our best foot forward...so to say. It says we are a big time program when we bring our whole football game atmosphere with us.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Re: Band to Hawaii
Here is another thought. SMU football will reap rewards with more athletes interested in coming on board, the same will hold true for the mustang band. If the band is rewarded with bowl trips I will speculate more freshmen joining the band next year.
Re: Band to Hawaii
That's actually a really good point, this is our opportunity to show a national audience what our program is about. This is the most important game we've had in 25 years for our image and for PR. We need to go all out, the more fans, band members, mascots, et al that we get to Hawaii the better. The way we present ourselves on a national scale is almost more important than the final score, in the long run. We need the evil four letter network to pump out some good old montages and clips of the glory days, and let everyone know our goal of putting SMU football back on the map for good.

As the SMU football team goes, so goes the rest of the University. Glad to hear they are all going.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I've seen the e-mail Band, Cheerleaders and pep squad are going. (I think it's called the pep squad). SMU is doing this right.

Re: Band to Hawaii
As was pointed out in a different thread, the band needs to get better. The football team finally turned it around, now let's have the band step up their game.Oliver wrote:That's actually a really good point, this is our opportunity to show a national audience what our program is about.
