Sounds like the perfect year for a playoff.

Why not keep the BCS system and all its good attributes but also implement a relegation/promotion system to reward high-performing teams trapped in Non-AQ conferences? For example, pair one Non-AQ conference (Mountain West) with a BCS conference (Big XII) and say " if you're one of the bottom 2 teams in the BCS conference, you move down to the Non-AQ next year; if you're one of the top 2 teams in the Non-AQ, you move up to the BCS conference next year." You wouldn't have to add more games and you wouldn't disrupt the BCS tie-ins. At the same time, success in winning at the Non-AQ level would be rewarded with a chance to play regularly with the big boys and the overall BCS race would be more exciting. Granted, there are more BCS conferences than Non-AQ conferences and so there might need to be some conference dissolving (ACC)/realignments to even the teams and make things more geographically friendly, but overall I think this is the best solution.

WAC <--> Pac 10
Mountain West <--> Big XII
MAC <--> Big X
Sun Belt <--> SEC
CUSA <--> Big East

ACC teams reallocated among Big East/SEC conferences, Navy, Temple, Notre Dame forced to join Big East, MAC, Big X respectively

If Nebraska beats Texas and Fla/Bama is a close game, we are going to see a rematch of Fla/Bama before TCU gets their shot. Boise will get screwed if Nebraska beats Texas because they will be out of the BCS formula while Texas goes to the Fiesta Bowl

Now, if Texas gets blown out and Bama gets blown out...TCU just might have a chance, as long as Pitt can beat Cincy

That last part is happening. 24-10, Pitt in the second quarter.
(I don't think Texas needs to get blown out to fall below TCU. Just lose.)

Using my example, next year it'd look like:

Big XII North (Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado, Brigham Young)
Big XII South (Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, TCU)

More fair, better football.

What are the good attributes of the BCS? Until the revenue gets shared evenly between all Div 1 teams the system is pure and simple a rip off and the rich are going to get rich and the poor poorer.

stage is pretty well set now. Only question is where do the "other" unbeatens play. I hope TCU gets to play Fla but I'm afraid they may get a rematch with Boise while Cincy plays Fla in Sugar Bowl.

Absolutely well said. The masterminds have created this system which allows 3 undefeated teams to be left out of the championship equation completely because they didn't get enough votes. Although I cannot stomach him, Brent Musberger was the only media type on any of the BCS aligned networks to mention this sticky wicket, although belatedly at the end of the UT/Nebraska game when he kept screaming "BCS Chaos."

I for one do not recognize any "national championship" that is not won in a playoff system. Even if June takes us 13-0, we would never be invited to the championship bowl game. For heaven's sake, we were the only undefeated team in 1982, and ABC sports turned the Sugar Bowl into the national championship game just by repeatedly calling it that. Result: Once defeated Penn State beats Georgia. Eastern media vote Joe Paterno No. 1. SMU? No. 2 and best wishes.

The whole purpose of the BCS is to hog all the TV money. They need the teams in the "mid majors" to provide weaker programs that are available to fill out the "big boys" schedules with safe games but they want to keep those programs,"barefoot, pregnant and on the edge of town." Every now and then, an upstart like Boise State or TCU comes along but we will probably never get to know if they are "national championship" material without a playoff. Those who are against a playoff are either shills for the BCS or are just not well informed.
