Bill Clements? And government interference in football is as old as football itself - helmets were introduced when President (someone help me out here) demanded that the death rate in college football be reduced or he would ban football. I think the we'll eventually have football regulated out of existence into 7 on 7 flag football eventually anyway, might as well get a playoff with it.
You have once again made my case. Teddy Roosevelt threatened college football with goobernment intervention. So colleges created the NCAA. Look at the mess we have now! Sure we got helmets out of the deal but at what price?

Statement from Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the Bowl Championship Series:
“With all the serious matters facing our country, surely Congress has more important issues than spending taxpayer money to dictate how college football is played. The consensus among the presidents, athletics directors, coaches and faculty from the 120 major universities is that the current system is the best.â€

If the schools don't want gov. interference, then maybe they should stop taking gov. aid. I can really see UT, any major school turning down gov. aid.

If you don't want the police searching your property without a warrant maybe you should stop using them for protection.

Consensus...that would be one more than half...right? And like the faculties give a rat's [deleted] about football.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I think what you are refering to was the flying wedge formation . quote The formation can also apply to sports, particularly a formation in American football that was introduced by Harvard in an 1892 game against Yale. Identical in concept to the military formation, the flying wedge was known for being brutally effective, but also resulting in a high rate of injury on both sides. Because of a number of injuries suffered in college football, this and similar formations were banned in 1894 [2], though its concept remains in certain modern football plays.[3] The flying wedge is also (for similar safety reasons) banned in Rugby Union [4]

College football is a muti billion $ industry. Much of the money, one way or another, involves taxes. Involves jobs, building projects, travel, salaries etc.

What a silly example. Colleges are not granted immunity from regulation and oversight anywhere in the Constitution. Actually none of the words "college" "university" "education" appear anywhere in the text. Needless to mention... "football" ain't there, either. "unreasonable searches" is featured rather prominently. There is not a question of legality here. It's not whether or not they *can*, it's whether or not they *should*

The BCS is nervous now. Keep up the good work congressman Joe Barton. The BCS is a cartel that needs to be stopped.
