I can just hear the ghost of Bo Shcembechler now..."Cincinatti is going to be coached by a Cincinatti man!"

Hey, ND is either a coaching grave yard (ask Bob Davie, Ty Willingham, and Weis) or its the best gig in the Country. Kelly has a good midwest recruiting scheme going at Cincy. He has had great success there. He can schedule all the Big East teams he wants so long as ND plays Navy, USC and Michigan State every year the alums are happy. Add in Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana occasionally a few MAC teams and he can pull down 9 wins every year. He's losing his QB, so that will be a problem for him next year. He won't have any grace period. He's going to have to win early on and keep on winning or he'll join the others.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. I understand that there were some serious conversations with Stoops but negotiations broke down. This was being reported on in the early going for good reason.

Kelly will turn this program into a 9-3, 10-2 club every year (under the assumption they keep the schedule the same) but I don't see them competing for the NC. Weis recruited well during his tenure so there is plenty to work with despite Tate/Clausen leaving. Crist, Floyd, Allen, Rudolph, and T'ao will all be back.

Good Luck to Coach Kelly. Football is fun when teams like ND, SMU, and A&M are winning again....

You can't blame the guy for taking the job but there is something hypocritical with these coaches who preach the family message to their recruits and players and then skip out for a perceived better job or more money. Gary Patterson has gone way up in my book in the last few years with his committment to TCU. The NCAA needs to give an out to the players he recruited in the past couple of years.

Is it not fairly classless to abandon your team before a BCS bowl? Why could they not have waited until after he finished the season (a la June Jones)? I think this is really unfair to his team. He could have made a deal with ND and just waited another few weeks.

I guess ND wants him to get in there now and start working but if i were a player, i'd be pretty aggravated

UH coach Sumlin declines interview at Cincinnati
Chronicle News Services

University of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin said in a statement today that he will not be interviewing for the job as head football coach at the University of Cincinnati.

“After speaking with representatives with the University of Cincinnati yesterday and today, I declined an interview," Sumlin said. "I am looking forward to our first bowl practice later this afternoon and later honoring our seniors at the football banquet tonight.”

Sumlin, in his second season at UH, has the team 10-3 and headed to the Armed Forces Bowl against Air Force on Dec. 31.

The Cincinnati job became open when Brian Kelly left the school for the head coaching job at Notre Dame.
