Parker Mack (OL)

Post by BRStang »

Any of you Arky boys have the low down on this guy? Looks like a helluva OL recruit and a smart kid. Looking at academics, not just football. I think that should give us a strong advantage.

He is an excellent prospect. Petrino likes him and wants him at Arkansas, but I think Mack wants somewhere else. The Arkansas rivals guy speaks highly of him but is not strong on him choosing UA. Pulaski Academy kids come from families that historically have liked SMU. That is how I can best word it. This school, if I recall was the one featured by either SI or ESPN in a special report because they do not punt. So linemen have to be pretty well conditioned to remain on the field at all times. Academics will play a large role but we may not be leading in that category. If he wants 50/50 football and acadmics, I think we fit very well.

It's encouraging that UA doesn't expect to get him. I would think UA would try to lock down the state on kids like this. I want him at SMU. He looks like he eats D linemen for lunch.

This is true. We recruited Donte from Pulaski Academy in 1993
SMU Grad 1996 - Worked in SMU athletic recruiting office under Forrest Gregg and Bill Weidner from 1992-1997.

In the past Arkansas has always prided itself in keeping the in-state kids at home. Although that is still the case, Petrino makes it clear that he is a national recruiter. He seeks the best athlete from wherever they may be. The difference in his national recruiting and say SMU or TCU trying to recruit heavy in the Dallas area is that Arkansas will have 5-8 big time athletes a year in-state. The Dallas area may have that many in one school. But both Petrino and Jones see the value and ability to excel by recruitng nationally.

Rumors are he is possibly interested in a Ivy League school. Why not just come to SMU and if down the line he still wishes he could go to an Ivy League school, he can transfer without even having to sit out a year anytime. :?

That's what I always heard about him - that our competition might be Ivy League, not BCS

I noticed on Andrew Kinsellas Rivals page it looks like it is down to us and Princeton as well

I just hope his parents really want to watch Parker Mack play in Dallas (and Bowl games) during his college career and then Mack can go on and get a graduate degree at Princeton during his NFL offseasons. This talented guy will be a real difference maker here and with our excellent OL coaching will propel him into playing on Sundays. His signing would be huge.

Princeton tradition, reputation and campus are hard to beat; however, SMU does not take a back seat to them from any stand point. Princeton football has really been down for a number of years and SMU coaches are in totally superior position to give him the coaching he needs if he has NFL aspirations.
