You questioned, if I remember correctly, that June was responsible for this from the beginning. Funny that he mentioned the geldings as part of an effort at "changing the culture and image" of SMU on a Sirius satellite radio interview (posted about a month ago by PonyPride).

What does a panel of college mascot industry experts consist of?

I questioned the disinformation I saw, it certainly seemed to come predominately from one side and as an added bonus that was the side acting the most unhinged.

I never said that they were experts in mascots - just that a panel voted. After all, "I am just asking who voted Peruna top 10. It is one of those things that someone says and then it gets a life of its own and before you know everyone is repeating it with no basis in fact."

You didn't question the disinformation the others were spreading on this board, such as "We didn't ask for the horses, Mrs. Pickens gave them to us." That's despite the fact that NBC 5 reported the following:

"They came to me, I didn't go to them -- SMU asked me to find them a Mustang."

I actually thought this thread was about Jones...hope his goal is to take SMU to a BCS game...or another national championship. That will keep him here until he's done coaching

"Student Senate voted 32-3 that Peruna should be the only mascot at the stadium"

I care more what SMU player Pete Fleps says about the
SMU Football team loving the new horses
than some student politicians.
2EchHisOwn.

"Fact is that June played the players against Peruna"

No not FACT.....if FACT please produce a verifiable source or URL to substantiate
your "fact" claim. An opinion or nutty theory does not equate to "fact". Is Pete Fleps lying?
If I want a 2nd car that does not mean I am unhappy with my 1st car....it doesn't mean I
have been "played against" the 1st car....it simply means I have added another tool in
the tool chest.

"telling them that other schools see his size and make fun of us for it"

Not that it matters to me what other schools think...but are you
claiming other schools don't make fun of the size of Peruna?

"When I pointed out to that player that Peruna was voted a top 10 mascot"

I think Peruna is not #10, I think he is #1....and really dont care what some travel
related web-site thinks.....#10?....Tell your swell source they are dissing Peruna!

"and that the small yet feisty horse represented our school (small, but never backing down from fighting the big boys) well, that player said "yeah, I see your point."

And that player was probably thinking the same thing I do....what does that
have to do with anything? It's not an either/or. It's never been.
We have cheerleaders...we have Pom Pom Girls.
We have Peruna, we have a couple of full size horses....
who knows if the full size horses stay a year, five years, ten years, forever...
i dont really care.....
They may be like the dark helmets...which was a break from tradition
did you have a hissy fit about that too?

When you mess with tradition, you mess with SMU. That's all there is to it.

Yes when we added Pom Pom Squads it must have been terrible to "mess with" SMU.
We should only have one cheerleading squad! Why's that?....Well uh uh uh juzzz becuz!

And I agree re: the warning shot idea.

Ok we agree every once in awhile....but weren't you the one
that agreed with someone about how "stupid it would be to burn Padron's red shirt"?

I find the opinions of 35 students who are part of that organization to be more substantive than a media byte from a single player. Not that the senate is really worth much.

Besides, the football team is here for us, the University's students, alumni, faculty, etc. They, as a program, ought to be an image of what we want as a community. I honestly don't care what a player thinks because it doesn't matter. They ought to have no voice in screwing with mascots, helmets, or uniforms. Worry about what happens on the field, and maybe yell about a lack of fan support. Other than that, it's not their place, and it's bigger than them. If they don't like any of that, or value it more than the other positives, then don't come here. Once you're here, suit up, win games, and represent the University well.

Actually, I was the one who said that we shouldn't worry about the red shirt because we needed QB help NOW, and if it didn't work out we could always redshirt him next year when we have McDermott and Kaiser on the roster in addition to Padron, BLM, and B. Smith.

The rest of your post substantiates to "I don't care what the student body says, because the football team likes them." To that, I simply say this: without the students that attend SMU, would SMU exist?

Then there was some incoherent dribble about the pom squad, dark helmets, etc. I won't even get into how different those things are from this situation.

Padron is going to go from 6-4, probably 175 to probably 6-4, 225+ by his redshirt Senior Year if we are not dumb enough to waste his redshirt. When we start playing Junior and Senior QBs with experience in the program in the Run and Shoot that alone will result in better results than hoping Freshman phenom No. 20 is going to rescue the program like we've done for twenty years.

1) I was agreeing to how big he would be in his redshirt senior year and also agreeing that junior and senior QBs with experience will work better in this offense than a freshman. I was not agreeing to the part that you bolded.

2) Check out my posts from October, especially in response to people saying that we should have just played Smith vs. UH and Tulsa instead of putting Padron in. That should clear my viewpoint up for you.
