Fortunately, we didn't need to burn his redshirt so Fontana was able to get a years worth of Vitamin V before heading into the Trenches. I really hope this trend continues on the O-line and someday can even work its way over to the D-line as well :)

I heard Fontana got hurt in the last few days at practice and it may require surgery and he will be out for awhile?

Not a subscriber, but I'm guessing it's an ACL?

Everything but MCL — lengthy rehab.

Not sure if this affects the center position right away, because he was working more at guard this year on the scout team, I gather. I would guess this means Ben Hughes comes in and backs up McJunkin in the spring, right?

Get better, Joey — all the best.

Looks like he may be out next year. If so, can he get a medical redshirt and still have 4 years to play? I guess he would be still playing while in grad school.

He would have to apply for a medical redshirt after his remaining eligibility expires in 4 years.

Given the circumstances — redshirting this year, getting hurt at the very end of the season — I would think his chances of a medical redshirt would be very good. Then he could become another Mitch Enright, and graduate with TWO degrees in hand.

He has already redshirted. We wouldn't know about hardship waiver until 2013. Enright is only in his 5th year. He forfeited shot at 6th year by playing in final game of 2008. You can only get the 6th year by applying after your eligibility expires and most of those kids suffered multiple injuries during their careers. It's not a slam dunk.
