Big Televen Issues Official Statement on Expansion

Postby Stallion » Tue Dec 15, 2009 6:55 pm

this actually might be bad news for TCU because there are scenarios where the PAC 10, Big 10 and Big 12 gobble up MWC depending on the teams chosen. Multiple possibilities but Missouri to Big 10, Utah or BYU to Big 12 and or BYU and Utah to PAC 10 are definite possibilities. Colorado to PAC 10 also would cause major changes. Not surprisingly TCU fans already call it the "Nightmare Scenario" because they already within the footprint of the Big 12 and geographically undesireable to the PAC 10 and Big 10.

With the exception of the classy few who come on PonyFans.com and offer posts of actual substance, couldn't care less about Frog High and its fans.

well if things shake out like they could then this is going to affect us all. I bet you were sitting there with Ken Pye and Forrest Gregg shaking their heads when the SWC broke up wondering what happened. Both a western scenario or an eastern scenario if all BCS conferences go to 12 are likely to directly affect SMU. For example if an Eastern scenario of Big Ten expansion were to occur it could lead to CUSA East getting raided too. I sure hope someone at SMU understands the repercusions this time. If Big 10 expands it could be a Tidal Wave as discussed in this article

Why would the big 12 want to expand to Utah?

because the Texas teams will not allow TCU to be the only BCS school in the Metroplex which has more top recruits than any area in America. The Big 12 South already dominates the Metroplex. Only other alternative would be Arkansas and they get more money in the SEC. Big 12 would need northern team to keep Big 12 South schools together because none of them want to lose fertile Texas recruiting bases and their voting block would vote down any other expansion. TCU also does not increase TV Market share.

should just keep it simple. Pitt to the Big 10, Memphis to the Big East. Penn St won't like it, but tough. Neither will WVU.

It would be funny if we end up in the same conference as TCU after all of the shuffling to see if they try to run away from us again.

All I know is, SMU is in a much better position now than when the SWC broke up, or when the MWC split from the WAC, or when C-USA took TCU from the WAC.

We have shown we are willing to run big time football and basketball programs (the latter not quite working out yet). We have a new stadium, a new basketball practice facility and big name coaches.

My prediction is that the Big 10 will expand by taking Pitt or as a surprise, UConn. UConn gets them the NYC market and upgrades their pathetic basketball rating. The Big East takes Memphis or ECU as a replacement. C-USA takes La. Tech. -- so not a big deal for SMU or C-USA.

Now for the MWC. They will act quickly whether or not the Big 10 expands. No way are they letting BYU and Utah out. Look for the addition of Boise State, Fresno and/or Nevada to quickly be announced -- as soon as this spring IMO.

Now what do you think all those conferences with Playoff games are going to think about the ACC and Pac 10 getting AUTOMATIC bids w/o playoffs. Better yet what will recruits and TV Networks think.. One thing I'm sure of is that if the Big 10 Domino falls eventually all BCS Conferences go to 12. And Notre Dame ought to give that some hard thought.

If the Big East only took East Carolina or Memphis to replace Pittsburgh, then their BCS status may be in jeopardy. To avoid this the Big East may have to at last go to 12. This is the worst case scenario for SMU, as CUSA is forced to add several teams from the Sun-Belt, tremendously damaging the value of the conference.

The best possible option for SMU is if Missouri is selected by the Big 10. At best, if the Big 12 loses Missouri to the Big Ten and Colorado to the Pac-10 (which will take either Colorado State or Utah, or BYU), the Big 12 will then replace the two schools it will have lost with a combination of Utah, BYU, and Colorado State.

At this point the MWC will be at 6 teams and need to add six in order to not only replace the missing teams, but also to continue its quest to become a BCS conference. At this point, Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State, SMU, Tulsa, and Houston would be added.

Call me crazy (and most people do)..Why doesn't the Mob Boss get on the phone to his Big 10 connections and say we want to join. I know we can come up with the cash for the entrance fee and it gives the Big 10 a market they could never have....DFW..(Hey I know it is outside the box, but desperate times call for desperate measures)!
