Missouri declared their interest in joining the Big Ten-leven today...

lets say they leave the Big 12 for the...Big 12?

who slips in? if we're looking at the 2 years, can we make a serious push to try and grab that spot?

Read Stallion's article at the beginning of the thread. The Big 12 South schools will never allow another school to be added in the lower half of the conference, and if they did it would be TCU. Adding another Texas school would disrupt recruiting and force Oklahoma or Oklahoma State into the north. Instead, look for them to attempt to add Colorado State, Utah, or BYU. If the Pac-10 expands, it will be sure to add Colorado and a MWC team, so expect the Big 12 to add yet another team to the north in order to make up for its losses.

The Mountain West Conference will look very different if the Big 10 adds Missouri, and it very well may be a more pleasant one for SMU.

It is 50/50 this could also be a disaster situation....

Can't we just bring the old Southwest Conference back?

Dooby

You might be able to convince Air Force to play in a Southern Division of a reconfigured conference including Texas teams. The real glue to the coalition was BYU and Utah. Wyoming and Colorado St -not so much. If Utah and BYU leave, then you might make a persuasive argument that Air Force would be better off recruiting Texas where about 30% of their players come from. Air Force coaches basically live in Texas during recruiting season. They've already extended 48 offers to Texas kids and their recruiting season is just getting started.

In the orig. scenario, someone had Utah and BYU going to different BCS conferences. I find that highly, highly unlikely. But yes, Utah and BYU would gladly sell out the other 3. I just don't see a conference with some of those teams in them where they don't play eachother every year.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

True, if the Big 10 does take a Big East team, it will result in the destruction of Conference USA. However, the Pac-10 may still feel the need to expand, making it very possible that SMU's conference may still be able to change. In this instance, the MWC would add two of the three schools: SMU, Houston, and Tulsa. Houston would be a certainty, making our direct competitor Tulsa.

MWC
West: Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, and UNLV

East: Air Force, Houston, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, and Wyoming

This is the best scenerio possible for us if this major expansion goes down...

Hopefully this is what happens and the MWC is awarded a spot at the table...

We can schedule Rice, Baylor, d1AA and 1 [deleted] texas U, UNT, OOC

absolutely the best for us. Tulane and Rice wouldnt like it...especially if they want to wine about academic standards within their conference...imagine if they wound up in the same conference as Troy, ULL, ULM, LaTech etc..

okay i have to ask this question even if its been answered....exactly what "higher" standard do we hold our athletes to? ive never seen any stats about this subject and to be honest it sounds like people on this board are handicapping us like a ND, Stanford, or other institution of higher academics when we don't even sniff them...is it that we are freezing out potential recruits because of HS grades and SATs? or a combination of terrible recruiting for the better part of 20 years and not having the right kind of degree for athletes?

bring back the SWC!
