Oh Mama...what a tongue lashing! 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm saving a few other tasty morsels for later. Patton is just too easy a target.
Can't we all just get along?

He may say it jokingly, but when Craig James is talking on TV he took a paycut to play for New England after SMU, it kind of tells you how sorry the whole time period was -- even though the on-the-field product was pretty good.

These clowns couldn't keep their hands out of their wallets. Bill Clements was a dumba$$. My first two years on this campus were in '87 and '88. Lots of fun on Saturdays during the fall  !

1. Craig James didn't go from SMU to New England — he played with the USFL's Washington Federals after leaving SMU.
2. James didn't say that. It was said about Eric Dickerson when he joined the Rams.
3. Dickerson didn't say it — it was said ABOUT Dickerson.

Other than that, your facts are rock-solid.

Regardless, hating UT for no good reason is pretty ridiculous.

If you have a valid reason, then hate away.

But hating them just because they're UT, that makes no sense.

Blaming them for anything that ever happened at SMU, just plain dumb. We brought it all upon ourselves. However, we have shown that we will rise out of the depths.

[quote="Mama Bouche"]Hey they stole my line, "A victory for Texas is a victory for the forces of darkness." As Dickerson says, no one ever asks me what ATM offered. I think the cartoon is a hoot. I don't blame UT for SMU getting caught, but I blame the NCAA for not being even handed. And by the way I still hate Texas, always will because the majority of their fans are not alums and even if they are they did go to UT, they took the easy route and weren't part of the true honors college which, according to my law school room mate, who was a UT alum, the only part of the undergrad population that mattered. Patton, how dare you use as your avatar a son of the South when you support all the yankee schools of the big ten. Wasn't that a VMI belt buckle Patton was wearing? You have no sense of history. You pompous wind bag. You and I would not get along in person. But we do agree on one thing, the resurgence of SMU football. Why don't you leave it at that? You obviously have too much time on your hands. Why don't you get involved with a charity instead of running around here like a guinea rooster? I bet you get all weepy eyed when Jeff Daniels does his "Please bring your business to Michigan ads." Jeff dear the cars are made in Tuscaloosa and Montgomery and other points South now. So Patton you suck it...except for Christmas eve when we will all do a big group hug until Christmas day when I can go back to ragging on you.

ooooooh weeee mama..that was an [deleted] kickin'...true dat...i am a stanger...all others can suck it...

Two words: Ken F'n Pye (ok, that was three words).

This is a very valid point. Most alabama, ou, florida, ohio state fans are DEFINITELY alumni of their schools. This is something VERY unique to texas and actually is a very good reason to hate a school. Thanks for sharing!

PS. In case it's not evident, i'm being incredibly sarcastic. That is one of the dumber issues with UT that i've heard someone voice. Wake up dumba$$. It's like that in probably every state in the country

I always laugh at the Ken Pye haters, as well...while he did lay down some pretty stiff / quasi ridic rules, what was he to do, just waltz in a let it be a "business as uaual" environment? Pye was not the issue either...

Actually, although Ken Pye was complicit in our post-return tragedy, his very presence on the Hilltop is the proximate result of the cheating scandal. But for the stinking, all-the-way-to-the=governor's-mansion slush fund scandal, there would have been no death penalty, no reason for L. Donald Shields to step down, no hiring of Pye, etc. Now his knee-jerk, swing the pendulum 180 degrees reaction prolonged the agony, but without the pay-for-play scandal he's not even here.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Audit says A&M has problems

COLLEGE STATION — The Texas A&M athletic department lacks control of its finances, according to an audit obtained by the Express-News.

The department “requires significant improvement in its financial controls and processes,” according to the 25-page report that reviews a span from September 2007 to December of last year. Six accountants from the A&M system performed the internal audit.

Two high-ranking A&M officials said Wednesday that athletic director Bill Byrne's job was not in jeopardy based on the findings. Byrne, who couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday night, addressed the audit in his weekly online column.

“The auditors also made one very serious observation,” Byrne wrote. “During the period under audit, they believed that we had limited monitoring of, and limited accountability for, daily financial operations. And during that time, the auditors were correct.”

Phone messages left for the audit's director and project manager were not returned Wednesday night.

Byrne said he's fixed the problems by changing management in the business office and that he's “confident that our business operations are being conducted effectively and efficiently today.”

The report also says the department did not prepare a balance sheet, and therefore “financial reporting activities performed by the Athletic Department do not provide a complete picture of its financial position.”

5 times SMU and its ranking officials denied SMU's involvement in cheating scandals between 1975 and 1986. I bought and truly believed all of the arguments about selective enforcement and unfair NCAA treatment until the truth came out and proved SMU and all involved in the athletic program including Chairman of the Board of Govenors, ad hoc committee of the Board of Govenors, President of the university, Athletic Director, Head Coach and all Assistants were corrupt, lying bastards that consciously and intentionally violated NCAA rules. To continue to perpetrate the arguments of the bald faced lying bastards is ignorance of the truth.

PK, as my old man used to tell me, and I'm sure yours did too, if everybody jumped of a cliff would you do it too?

Whatever everybody else was doing is not why we got the death penalty. What we were doing got us the death penalty. And frankly, nobody has ever been able to demonstrate the kind of instutional corruption that SMU had in the '80s, were the payments were approved by the Republican governor hisself. Just saying....
