We Are So Bad

Doherty should give back his paycheck. The announcers are holding back laughter while watching our "offense". Oh and wait, a team is making tons of threes on our stupid zone...Shocker!

it couldn't be worse, it really couldn't

I have to admit up front that I don't follow our basketball team closely. I've been traveling quite a bit this year, so this game is the first one I have had the chance to catch. Wow, was it a terrible thing to see. Our guys just didn't act like they wanted to win. They are not competitive at all. I realize a lot of that can be blamed on coaching, but what about self respect and pride? They were just out-hustled, out-worked, out-played, and out-classed on the court.

I grew up in North Carolina watching Doherty, et al play ball at UNC, so I have held on to hope that he would turn things around. But watching this made me wonder that if this is where we are 4 years in to the Doherty project if there can possibly be any upside. I am finally starting to think not, and I hate to say that.

It seems like our team doesn't really understand how to play basketball at the fundamental level. Screw offense, they need to learn the basics.

With some of our players, you'd think if you just taught them how to screen and cut (i.e., motion offense) they would probably put the ball in the hole. We don't really need set plays for players who can't make plays. We need to teach them how to recognize opportunities. Otis would be good at this.
Turnovers off of stupid mistakes were horrendous. Its almost like they got scared and just threw the ball at the rim hoping something would happen.
UNLV would then just walk it down the court, throw it in the paint, and get a layup.

So disappointing...........We looked like a kid's rec team moving up to play in a competitive league for the first time. I think Doherty could cancel practice for the rest of the year and tell the team to just practice by themselves when they want to and we would look better......The team has quit on Doherty, plain and simple..............Pride will probably kick in from time to time and we will have a decent game here or there as a result but they have quit imo................

Like the above poster - I have not watched a lot of the Coach Doh era of games. But that first half (and that was all I could take) was perhaps the worst performance I have seen from an SMU bball team . . . ever.

Not one athlete on the floor could hold a candle to the recruits that Dement brought to the Hilltop. I thought Coach Doh and the new Athletic Basketball facility was supposed to lead to some sort of recruiting pipeline?

Why do I think that a team consisting of Jon Forinash, DeWayne Floyd, Tom Nabity, Jemeil Rich and Muhammed Tijani could dominate this current bunch?
