That game was unwatchable last night. I gave up at halftime. I outlined my problems with their play in the other thread on the UNLV game. Suffice it to say that I agree that some of this is on the players. Not lack of effort, but lack of Court sense. Few bounce passes in the interior. Throwing cross court passes. Getting stripped while dribbling. Taking 3's when you're guarded or from too far out. Those are mental player mistakes that every player should know not to do after high school. I can't put that on Doh except that he recruited them to come here. If I were coaching them, every guy who threw a picked off pass would be running yo-yo's until he was hurling.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I'm with ya. What a disgrace. Watched the game at my in-laws with a room full of Ms State fans. I was so embarrassed. Everybody left to go watch something else in another room. Doherty has got to go. Disgusting display.

It was embarrassing, my dad fell asleep on the couch. It really is the coaching in my opinion. The mental errors that people are referring to on offense are a result of poor offensive coaching. The offense is stagnant, Gottlieb made a good point when he said Doh!erty is not running an offense that suits our players.

I counted numerous times when Dia was stuck at the top of the arch after picking up his dribble with no where to go. The shot clock would wind down as no one would go to him to get the ball, which would then result in bad passes, strips, and ugly shots. The 21 turnovers, ya thats bad play, but I think its a glaring sign of bad coaching. Same with the miserable free throw shooting.

This team seems to have no discipline, no heart, no organization, no fluidity. And it doesnt really play defense either. With all of the tools Doherty has to recruit, its just unacceptable I'm sorry.

Its amazing as I watched both games live that the BBall fundementals are so lacking....the court sense of the Sengal players are even more lacking in BBall instincts and please do NOT recruit another guy from there, UNless SMU is commited to really working on their skill training and Big Man skills (especially stop bringing the ball down to point guard level...again and again )....I do like more European players ( the new recruit from Maine is a good start)as their overall Bball skills are MUCH more apparent. This team doesn't have a feel for when to effectively shoot the 3 and when its really in the flow of the game...and why even attempt to shoot when you aren't even squared up for the shot? That is so fundemental and basic....this program is shot and needs new blood...Doh is not making it happen.....

the situation might force Orsinis hand. How can you possibly imagine giving Doh an extension at the end of this season? But if you don't, Doh is a lame duck for recruiting.

I understand the recruiting take but the flip side
is maybe a new HC brings in quality talent
that's not currently in the mix.
At this point, that's the direction to go.
I've seen enough. This is the time.
Add a new HC & combined with the football
teams success & u will have an excitement level
@ an all time high.

Our '10 recruits are all signed. Any new coach just has to sell it, and we'd keep the kids, I'd think. I doubt Orsini would grant their release until a new coach was named, and had a chance for a sit down. This is not working out right now, and I think Papa has a point about parlaying the football excitement into a solid hoops hire. SMU basketball should be Gonzaga-like, and to make that happen, it's time to evaluate the whole problem. There has to be a plan in place to win back DFW.

According to Coach Doh we're the Duke of the Southwest! He just forgot to mention that he isn't the coach to get us up to those standards...

We never should have hired him to start with and should get rid of him after this season. He couldn't win at UNC so why would anybody expect him to win here. This has been Orsini's worst decision and he needs to face it now.

Doh said all the right things coming in here, but it's looking more and more like he just isn't meant to be a successful hoops coach...at least at this level. This program is just awful and it is really sad to see what Moody has become. He's had time and while I like the guys signed for next year, Orsini is going to have to be incredibly patient to allow Doherty to be their coach.

The ONE THING Doherty has going for him is that he WAS Orsini's hire. Nobody likes to admit they made a mistake, so we may just have to suffer through this season and next to see if he can find the talent/chemistry to start producing and win some of our long alienated fans back.

Hang in there, 1500!

I really want to like Coach Doh...I've tried - I really have. But that performance in the Hawaii tournament was an embarrassment. We can't (or aren't) playing fundamentally sound basketball and Doh micromanages the game too much.
I'm afraid it's just not going to happen. Unless there is a major turnaround in conference play, I'm ready to throw in the towel on Doh's time in Dallas. Are you listening Steve?

Doh has done a good job of helping improve the facilities and is a good baby kisser but a lousy coach. He has done all for us that he can do at this point. We need new leadership!
