ProposalAfter watching yet another Ryan Harp layup get swatted away, I propose that he saves us all the heartache and whenever he gets the ball on a fast break he should immediately execute a jump stop. He must then do one of two things; either just rifle the ball out of bounds or kindly hand the ball to the opposing player nearest him.

Re: ProposalHarsh, man...funny, but harsh....thank god he is not from Sengal, board would really be on him...
Re: ProposalI would probably quit worrying about Harp and spend some time picking on McCoy. Now there is a problem.
Re: Proposal
you're right. Harp is supposed to be a role player. McCoy is supposed to be the helmsman. Not good when the captain of the ship is MIA.
Re: Proposal
You know - I posted in anther thread that Harp should just man-up and give up his boat so that we could at least improve through subtraction. That's HARSH but at year 3 he has a stat line that is equivalent to an 8 year old at the YMCA. The bad part is- that IF the real Harp had shown up -my questions would be what would the stat of SMU's program be like. How many games would have been or even could have been changed if he knocked down a 3pt or short jumper as he did in HS ? Havving a reliable guy to do that doing years 2 and 3 woulfd have had an some impact by making opponents guard him at the very least. Right now teams can play off him and Dbl Team others and that's happened since his second semester. 5 on 4 ball is great for practice but really hard to win at if your down a man. I think he was supposed to be a homerun for Doh and he just hasn't produced.
Re: Proposal
Amen. I really wonder what is going on - he was averaging like 20 pts a game last yr.
Re: Proposalfirst of all, harp is not as bad as everybody here thinks he is... the guy CAN play and he CAN shoot... the problem is that he has issues getting his s**t together for the games... also, his coach has messed WAY TOO much with his shot which makes it even tougher for him to play without thinking too much... it's not his decision how many minutes he's playing so stop putting the blame on him... if you really want to look for someone to take your frustration on, I would start with McCoy... the guy has disappeared this year!!! If it wasn't for Jwill, Papa, and Mo, this team would've been 0-whatever...
Re: ProposalThis thread is going the right direction. If people would have known McCoy would become a below average starter, nobody would have predicted double digit wins. They've actually been pretty close this year, considering their all league performer, couldn't start for 70% of the teams in our league right now. He's so far in his own head, he doesn't even know what's going on. It's not a Doh thing either, he's killing himself
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: ProposalI've been very disappointed with McCoy this year. I've been tempered with my criticism of him because in my opinion it's the horrible offense that Doherty runs that is contrary to McCoy's (and Williams) abilities. McCoy has great speed and elusiveness which is what we saw last year. He needs the ball in space or on the move to create, and this "set a bunch of screens beyond the three point line and then launch up a desperate heave as the shot clock expires" cluster [deleted] that Doherty is trying to run hampers PM's gifts.
Having said that, this shows a hole in his game that he hasn't been able to adjust. And much like his teammates, he can't hit a three to save his life this year. One more criticism, this goes for the whole team but I especially notice it with McCoy; his passes are lazy and tend to get picked off, especially the cross court passes. Having seen this game after game by this team and the fact that it hasn't been spotted on game film by Doherty and rectified, tells me everything I need to know about his coaching ability. #NewLobCity
Re: ProposalThis might've been brought up before, but can any of this attributed to what went down during the offseason? McCoy is pretty much out the door when Coach Doh and Steve O meet with him and I'm assuming basically beg him and tell him that it's his team, he is the star, etc. Any chance that all goes to the kid's head and he just got a little too lazy heading into the season?
I'm not trying to paint McCoy as a bad guy -- I think that would happen to a lot of people if you're basically told that you can do whatever you want as long as you stay here. Obviously there was a big change between last season and this season and the near transfer was the biggest off season event surrounding this McCoy and this team.
Re: ProposalAnd as for Harp, I think the coach has just gotten so far inside of his head that he's lost all confidence on the offensive end. He wasn't afraid to shoot it as a freshman, so it's not like he's been gun shy his whole career. Didn't he get the red light from the coach last season on 3's? And of course it doesn't help that he's another guy who can't create his own shot while playing in an offense that doesn't create shots for guys.
I agree with Rack that you can't fault Harp for being out there as much as he is. Clearly Doh sees something in him, but at this point that is probably more of a bad thing than a good thing.
Re: Proposal
My suspicion is Doh and his assistants loved on him and promised him how much better Doh would be this year. He recommits, gets here, and sees nothing has changed regarding Doh's methods and goes into a major funk. He just looks like a guy that is crossing the days off a calendar. It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't come back for the spring semester..............
Re: Proposal
BINGO!!! We can all talk how much Doh has changed and how he's become player friendly but the reality is that he's still the same ol' crazy coach that he once was (trust me!)... I've been defending him for a long time now because i truly believed that the program was moving in the right direction... I'm not sure if i can continue doing that... and while you can't make the basket or defend the 3s as a coach, team's playing reflects the coaching... I still think we have talent to stay competative in the conference but i just don't see desire or passion from the players... and that pretty much sums up the season!
Re: ProposalPlayers don't play for pride? Because they love to play? For the team? each other? the school? Everything is Doh's fault? I have a real hard time understanding that this "slump" is 88.9% Doh's fault...not buyng that...Go Mustangs!
Re: ProposalIt's been a tough start to the season, but the idea that McCoy, of all people, might have "gotten lazy" seems hard to believe. Everything I've heard about the guy suggests that even on his worst day, there is no harder worker.
