In our 3 previous games against well regarded opponents we had won two and came close to winning the third. My expectation was that we would play well tonight, not necessarily win, but play well in front of a national audience. I even thought we would have a chance to win. That is why I am so out of sorts about tonight’s game.
In previous years I would have expected what we got tonight, but not this year. Just when you think we are going to step out of the shadows, something like this happens, and it happens in front of the national audience I thought would be a good thing. Maybe somehow it will pay dividends for us down the line, but right now I am as disappointed as I can get (with respect to an athletic event).
Nothing to do now but suck it up and find a way to beat Tulsa Tuesday night. Where did I put my bottle of Jack?

Frankly, it's embarrasing. I think Dement has been here for 7 years now and I have yet to see one of his teams play good perimeter defense. I think it's great that we play a tough zone, but if the other team is dropping bombs on you, it's time to switch to man. Ridiculous. I bleed SMU and this loss was a tough one. I thought we'd more competitive. I just don't see how Dement can survive if he doesn't make the NCAA's this year.

This is why it is such hard work being a Pony fan! Dement was on ESPN radio this afternoon, and the guys built SMU up...saying how well they've done despite no support from the Admin. etc..the one point they made that kills me is this: that tonight was SMU's only appearance on ESPN, and this is what we get??
I wonder what Mike Jarvis is up to...

I agree that we do not have the personnel to match up to an OSU man to man, but when we are down by twenty five, why not show some pride in ourselves and try something new? It could not have been worse then the zone - and might make our players like Hop and Isham at least stay in the game. They gave up becuase they could see we were not getting it done the coached way, and they saw our coaches unable to make any adjustments. This was VERY disappointing not because we lost but because we lost big, on national T.V., and especially because the players AND coaches quit. Dement needs to come out after a game like this one and say - "hey - it is my and my staff's responsibility to come up with adjustments for this sort of game we did not get it done". Second point - we have tried the tall-skinny-guys-plus-one-talented-but-not-dominating-point-guard-offense for 10 years - can we please get some mean near-criminal inside guys and just see what it would be like. Recruit one or two extra, knowing they will get arrested from time to time, and lets get some rim rattlers in here - I'm sick of this ***** footed offense we run.

the paper said we got out of the zone when the score was 50-25.

OSU was good but lots of times I looked over from the Cowboy game, the Mustangs were simply uncompetitive. How can you give up so many uncontested or barely contested layups on the fast break... off of normal missed shots, not long rebounds etc...??? ugh... when will be the day that we can be competitive consistently?...

We waited until we were down 25 points before abandoning the zone? It doesn't work against teams that can shoot from the perimeter. Obviously.
OK, on to the next game. What kind of shooters does Tulsa have? I'm glad that Kevin Johnson guy is gone (FINALLY), but will Tulsa rain down a bunch of 3s on us, too?
Once a Mustang, ALWAYS a Mustang!
