Remember when Leach fired his Defensive Coach?

Does anyone remember the name of the D co-ordinator Leach fired a few years ago because the guy's wife was dying of cancer and he wanted to spend time with her? As I remember the story, the coach was an older gentleman who had been a head coach, and actually gave Leach, a man who never played the game, his first coaching job?
