Not sure who the announcers are, but the guys calling the Gator Bowl (Florida State/West Virginia) just rattled off how a couple of conferences have done in bowl games, before making a specific mention of SMU — the only school they called out individually. They got the opponent wrong, but...
Something about "SMU ... after 25 long years, they went out to Hawaii and had their way with Navy (sic). Congratulations to the Ponies, June Jones and Steve Orsini, the athletic director."

They were Gary Danielson and legend Verne Lundquist, who lives in Dallas and knows SMU well.

It was actually the Japanese who had their way with Navy in Hawaii. I know, this is in bad taste.

If this was 1950, I might say too soon, but I found it funny. : ) And my grandfather was in the Navy during WWII

I was sporting my SMU hat yesterday at the grocery store check out line when the young high school cashier said he was surprised and happy with SMU's win over Nebraska in Hawaii. I just smiled and said thanks.

Verne Lundquist used to announce SMU men's basketball games on the radio.
